Mini farmer has great home learning this week, which involves a nice long walk and writing down what you see, hear and smell.
We’re lucky that on our walk we get to see and hear our lovely cows grazing, turning the luscious green grass into delicious creamy milk. Yesterday, whilst the grass was wilting our mini farmer turned 5 🎉 and we celebrated with friends and family, even our cows joined us 🐄. We couldn’t have a bbq 🍔without homemade halloumi.

Another busy weekend doing second cut silage. 🚜 Yesterday was the perfect day for mowing.
Whilst our priority is grazing, we’re thankful to the British weather 🌞 as we’ve got lots of grass 🌱and therefore we’ve been cutting this weekend to ensure we have plenty of feed for winter. Leaving some fields for silage means this grass has had adequate time to grow and thanks to the sun, the grass has started to turn leafy and now is the right time to cut to ensure good quality sila...ge.
We know that grassland management is key to ensuring our cows produce the best quality milk for you. In this photo you can see our cows blissfully grazing in the field below whilst the top field is being cut by the mower, which they’ll be thankful for come the winter!

Thanks to Rcd Hoare it’s all systems go with 2 forage wagons and a merger. The merger goes in front and carefully lifts and merges the grass into a row for the forage wagon to pick up. . We hope to be cutting again in 4 weeks time. Silage season underway at Lyde Green. We started mowing our grass today which will be forage harvested this Saturday. Spring field work is underway at Lyde Green Farm. Thanks to our contractors #rcdhoare for drilling Italian Rye grass and red clover mix. We carefully select our grass varieties for our cows and this grass 🌱will be predominantly used for cutting and making silage to feed our cows over the winter. My favourite time of day, ‘milking time’ and the farmer’s wife has the best job of fetching the cows in for milking.
