Garras Owlets

TEA AND CHAT Following requests from a number of parents we have organised a free informal tea, chat and parenting advice session by our parent worker, Rachel Wilson-Powell. The session will take place this Monday 11th February from 1.45pm to 2.45pm at Mawgan Recreational Hall. All parents and their friends or relations are welcome. This will be a fantastic opportunity to share experiences, discuss tips and realise that you're not alone! It would be helpful for numbers, but not essential, if you could let Owlets’ staff know that you’re going.

Just to remind you that, although the SCHOOL children return on Monday 7th January, Owlets will be closed that day for an Inset Day. Owlets' children return on Tuesday 8th January. However if anyone is free to come in on the Monday to help us with lots of sorting, cleaning, painting and tidying jobs we would be delighted to see you.

This is just a reminder that our new style snack time starts this week. Please bring in one fruit or vegetable (2 if your child stays all day) which the older children will cut up and share out. No other snack will be required. Please be assured that we don't have sharp knives and proper supervision and health and safety procedures will be followed. Please place your fruit or vegetable in the bowl just inside our door. If you have any concerns please talk to a member of staff.

The children used a wide variety of materials, including straws, toothbrushes, pine cones, cotton reels (and their fingers!) to create these fabulous firework pictures.

Well done to the children for their wonderful singing (and actions) at the Harvest Festival this afternoon!

We have been enjoying some wonderful autumn walks over the last couple of weeks. We've found lots of autumn leaves, acorns,sweet chestnuts, moss, lichen, funghi, blackberries etc. Thank you very much, Nicole, for showing us your beehives and giving us flowers and delicious honey to take back to Owlets.

Hi Parents and Friends, We hope everyone has had a fabulous holiday. We would like to remind you that the children return to Owlets on Wednesday 5th September. Thank you very much to all who helped us on our Inset Days at the end of term and through the holidays. We really appreciate this as there is always so much to do to prepare for the Autumn Term. On Monday 3rd September and Tuesday 4th we staff will return to continue planning and preparation.If you are able to spare... an hour or two to help us on either day we would be extremely grateful.Staff have planning, home visits, ordering, admin work etc. to do. Some of the jobs we would love help with include; labelling, printing, laminating, displays, re-hanging washed curtains, sorting, tidying etc.😯! Tea, coffee and biscuits will be available. Garras Owlets is feeling optimistic. Published by Garras Owlets · Just now Hi Everyone, Thank you to all for helping make Slide and Splash such an enjoyable success. We now have another favour to ask. Could anyone spare us an hour or two of their time tomorrow to help make Owlets as lovely as possible for the children's return in September? We spent today sorting, cleaning, labelling etc. and will be doing the same tomorrow from 8:30. Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumst...ances, we are one woman down. Thank you, Nicole, for taking all our dressing up clothes home to wash and to Sue for taking home all the painting overalls. We would be really grateful if anyone else could take home cushions, cushion covers, soft toys or doll's clothes to wash. We did masses of paperwork and washed lots of the toys today but still have a long list of things that need doing, so we would be EXTREMELY grateful for any additional help tomorrow both indoors and out. CAN YOU HELP? The printer in Owlets (which supplies all the lovely photos for the learning journals) has stopped working. It is still under guarantee so needs taking back to Currys PC World in Truro for a replacement. Would anyone be able to do this for us over the next few days? If so please talk to a member of staff - we would be extremely grateful.

CROCODILES! We plan according to children’s interests. As the children are very interested in crocodiles (as evidenced by their enjoyment of our ‘Row, Row, Row Your Boat’ song) we’ve decided it would be a good idea to introduce a family of crocodiles to our (fenced off) pond area. Our new Wendy House will make a perfect den for the crocodiles but may need an extension as they grow. We will of course need a crocodile policy, a crocodile risk assessment and a parents’ rota for caring for our crocodiles at weekends and holidays. Parents on the rota are requested to clean out the pond area, feed the crocodiles, inspect their teeth and make friends with them. The crocodiles will require regular handling so that they become as tame as possible. Meanwhile we wish everyone a very Happy Easter.

Oscar the Bear has left some of his belongings at his friends' houses! If you find his yellow raincoat, one of his yellow boots or one of his sandals he'll be delighted to have them back. Many thanks.

The staff are so friendly, kind & gentle towards the children & the surroundings are just beautiful for the children to play & learn in.
