At Gateway Learning and Skills our aim is to provide schools with short or long term respite education for those students who struggle in the classroom for a variety of reasons. The outcome is almost inevitable: an increase in class disruption prevents teachers from teaching and other students from learning resulting in the eventual expulsion of the student. By giving the support to schools in the form of an intervention we aim to challenge these behaviours so that students can return to mainstream education with a more positive outlook. We seek to improve learning through opportunities, challenge and enjoyment. We believe strongly that each hour of each day is an opportunity for a student to learn something new or master a skill. Learning is a process with a start point and from that any number of end points, depending on what a student is learning and what stage of learning they are at. Where learning is at its strongest a student is either developing or mastering new knowledge. Our drive, as an alternative provider, is to identify, support and challenge Students at all stages of their learning to maximise their individual potentials.
