Is Your Business Your Pension?
It is for many business owners and yet they don't know what the value of their business is, lack a clear exit strategy, and even worse they have no strategies in place to grow the value.
A common misunderstanding is that the value - (what someone else is essentially prepared to pay for it) is simply going to be a multiple of the profits.
... It isn't. We work with 8 key drivers for business value that will eventually influence the multiple of Profits that a business can be sold for. It is to do with systems, dependencies, clear job descriptions and standard operating procedures amongst many other things.
If interested to look at how you can boost the value in your business let me know and at the very least I can send you a link to ValuebuIlder.
All the best.

Love watching people get out of their comfort zone and try something new - after all if we don't do that in life or business then we stay where we are getting the same results as we did - no?

Reflections as we leave our Ashdown Forest Home Office.
Obviously, really excited to have our offices in Uckfield with our conference facilities, etc - but going to struggle to match the view.
Every season is amazing on the Forest.
... Autumn is a favorite - along with Winter, Spring and Summer of course... So a weekend spent moving, assembling, disassembling, sanding, painting etc.. And we still get to come home to this view....
Work life balance moved on just a little bit further. After all we are in business for more life not less.
Have a great week everyone.

I WENT OUT TO GET A 4 X 4 AND CAME BACK WITH THIS
Last winter was quite problematic at times for Marian and I. We live in beautiful surroundings in the Ashdown forest but on a private road. Until recently we have been working from home, as most clients prefer Skype or are prepared to visit. We also run group coaching sessions in Brighton, so sometimes we are travelling too.
On the road where we live, the last 200m are a slope. Although we are only a short distance from the ma...in roads, when it freezes over it may as well be a mile.
Now that we are in "proper" offices and go to work every morning we were very keen to ensure that we can get there safely.
So with best intentions, we set out to grab a small 4*4 to compliment our business and daily cars.
The trouble is - as anyone who has seen my "dream chart" will know - driving the Amalfi coast in a convertible car is on my "to do" list.
Granted an old Saab 9-3 isn't exactly the Aston envisaged, but at the price and condition, it was too good to pass over.
As we say - we buy on emotion backed by logic (it was way below book price so clearly a short-term investment).
Whether it will get us up the hill - we'll just have to see.

The curse of Procrastination. Why do so many of us procrastinate so much in life and business?
We do it even when it causes anxiety. Many habitual procrastinators are smart, capable and hardworking, especially in business. Psychologists explain that procrastination is often a sign of anxiety; business support. A protection mechanism. If it goes too far however it becomes a liability.
... I often hear genuine deflection arguments from people needing business support[ "I just need to get a few things sorted first". That is a bit like tidying the house before the cleaner comes. The same argument is often applied to making systems, structural or strategic changes in the business. They all take us out of the zone of familiarity. Its a scary place for some
What procrastinators are really thinking is often something entirely different; "Now many ways can this go wrong?" "What if it doesn't work?" "Isn't it best not to have tried than to try and fail?"
If these questions resonate you are possibly experiencing a fear of failure.
But there are other reasons for procrastination too.
Do you feel your success will lead to other people finding out the "real you"? Do you believe that if you're going to do something, you should try to do it perfectly? Do you find it difficult to persist when things aren't going just right?
If you answered yes to these last three questions then perfectionism underlies your reasons for not moving forwards.
Both of these are mindset issues that do not serve you or your business well.
But they feel real yes?
Whatever the reasons let's start by recognising whether or not this is an issue in our lives and business.
To your success

What a great end to the week it was.
You couldn't fault the weather nor the company. It was great to be able to get together with around 40 Businesses at the Amex Football Stadium. Why do we do this? - we do it to work together to build focussed 90 day plans - so that progress towards the bigger objectives is maintained in smaller focused steps. But for many, there is also benefit in realising that you are not alone in business. Others have the same or similar challenges.
And... it is also a time for recognising suv=ccess. Amongst my clients, it was Tegan Rowlett of Tegan Accessories that won the "superwoman" award for a great attitude to business, and it was Julie Greenfield of Punktured in Brighton who won the quarterly award for getting to the position to be able to expand by acquisition. We work together, learn together, plan together and have fun together.
A great day... Looking forward to the next one already.

Time Management. The difference between Urgent and Important
If I don't start my working day with a clear idea of the priorities for the day and some allocation of time for the important but not urgent activities, then I can quickly feel my stress levels rising. Guess what - that's a vicious circle.
There is always "urgent". Some of it is our "urgent", some are other people's. And there is important; that which will move us and our business forwards. Lot's of people nev...er find the time resources for "important" because "Urgent" pushes it away. If this sounds familiar then maybe a short article I wrote here may help.

Best wishes. Have a great week.
