Fascinating queer oral history focussed on King's Cross.
Join us as we celebrate the publication of this wonderful collection of lesbian oral history edited by Jane Traies. Now You See Me draws on a unique new archive of life stories. In their own words, women from across the UK recreate a time when being lesbian meant hiding your true identity - or paying the price for breaking society's rules. "A precious collection of personal, powerful and heartfelt histories of previously undocumented lesbian lives." Clare Summerskill.
There will be readings, refreshments and a chance to buy signed copies. Admission FREE
Last night was special when Louise and Gavin who discovered and documented the badges of Paud Hegarty came in to look at the display. A bottle was opened and we all got a bit emotional. https://paudspins.wordpress.com

should be beautiful and surprising
Was there for " A Marvellous Party " book launch. The staff was incredible and the history of the bookstore is as important as the literature to the community. It's nice to know as things move online there is a place for us. Thank you Gay's The Word!
This is a wonderful shop, with friendly staff who took the time to have a chat. I wish I was able to spend more time there but still came away with a book and a poster! I’ll definitely be back next time I’m in London!
The very best gay bookshop in the world.
Such a creative idea and the staff is so friendly! The events that I was able to attend here were very fun! I'm glad I stumbled upon this store! 😁
One of the first gay establishments I visited after (indeed even before) coming out at the beginning of the 90s. A fantastic resource with friendly and knowledgeable staff. Thank you Gay’s The Word for providing me with a valuable source of gay literature, long before the advent of online shopping and widespread provision of LGBTQ sections in public libraries.
I was visiting England from Canada in October, this wonderful book store was a short walk from my hotel, I definitely took advantage of that stopping in daily for the week I was there. I highly recommend visiting this Gay's The Word!
I never miss a chance to visit this brilliant and iconic bookshop whenever I am in London.
I first saw this shop back in 1979, I would scurry past, trying not to look too interested - I was 18 and not yet 'out' to the world - a few years later I finally crossed the threshold into a world that would become a haven to me. I came along to a Wednesday evening 'Lesbian Discussion Group' about 'Coming Out' and never looked back. Whenever I'm in London, I always try to fit in a visit to this wonderful place - it needs our support as it's a rare breed now, a wholly independent LGBTQ bookshop, full of fabulous books, magazines, DVDs, postcards, badges and the like...
Great shop run by and for the LGBTQ community, like many small local businesses it relies on our trade, we should always try to shop with these amazing small businesses, we all know Amazon is fast, easy and convenient, but what it lacks is community spirt.
For over twenty years this have been my haven in London!
Always friendly and filled with great reads and events. Plus that community feel.
As a newcomer to town this is where I went to find info of where to go, what to do and also what to read. Big Love to Jimmy and Uli and all who keep it alive and kicking! London, UK, EU and the World would be a sad space without it! <3
Despite the many dramatic events and social changes this shop has been through, stepping inside is like being in a little LGBTQ haven. All aspects of queer culture is catered for, be it fiction, academic works, children's books or teen fiction. I was after a specific book about asexuality while I was there, and the helpful shopkeeper not only found it for me instantly but recommended the perfect title to accompany it. He was also immensely friendly and clearly had a lot of passion for his job. All in all, I cannot persuade you enough to visit and contribute to its history by showing support for such an influential indie bookshop. 10 out of 5!
Best bookshop in London with the most knowledgeable, friendly staff.
Apparently for those so inclined this book store in London, U.K. is both a great resource and also refuge. Here one can meet others of shared inclination. Have never been there myself so that I am relying on testimony of those who have visited this shop.

An enormous highlight of my first trip to London! I bought two excellent books including a fantastic new biography of my literary first love, EM Forster (yes, one of the reasons we stayed in a Bloomsbury hotel) and enjoyed a wonderful conversation. Always a huge comfort and pleasure to visit an establishment where you immediately feel welcome, and understood. Thank you, sending love from Winnipeg, Canada
Amazing to actually come here. It's a great little place, picked up a book on a whim because it seemed to fit me at my point in my life, and it's not what I expected but it's still great. They've got a great selection of new and preloved books, flags, and pins. I'll definitely be coming back everytime I'm in London.
Amazing place the LGBT+ community need to keep up the support of this shop, make sure you pop in buy something. Great choice and always a friendly welcome.
A little bit of always in a changing world
A gem of a shop and institution in London GLBT culture. Easy to find and off the beaten track. Great selection and knowledgable staff. I like to seek out the second-hand titles as much as the new releases. A detour is always worth it.
A gem of a bookshop staffed by the friendliest people ever
