We are having the most amazing sunshine for May! The kind that makes you think it's earlier than it is so you actually have the energy to go out in the evenings so a couple of weeks ago we decided to go out for a meal at Gee's on the Banbury Road in Oxford.

Gee's is a distinctive, iconic Victorian Glasshouse offering a Mediterranean inspired menu. It's a beautiful, light setting with all that glass and the little outdoor side seating area is looking lovely with all the beautiful potted plants and fairy lights.

I had the Pea, mint & pecorino risotto and the hubby had the 1/2 Wood fired guinea fowl, artichokes, kale & salsa rossa. For pudding I had coffee ice cream and hubby had the Chocolate nemesis & pistachio ice cream. Drinks were Rhubarb Toads to start - Sweet vermouth, Oxford Toad vodka, rhubarb and lime, followed by a bottle of Pouilly Fuisse 2013, Julien Collovray, Burgundy, France.

The meal was delicious and cooked perfectly. We had out first date at Gee's 17 years ago and it still doesn't fail to impress. It's on the upper end price wise but a lovely treat for those warm, sunny evenings!

Had a magnificent dinner with my family at Gee's on Saturday night. Everyone raved about their dinner and I was thrilled to have finally found a place in Oxford that serves a world class steak. Atmosphere was lovely and, all in all, a happy and unforgettable evening. Our Italian waitress was polite, attentive and enthusiastic.

Had a lovely supper with my daughter perfect food and perfect service ...we'll be back ...in fact I book again before I left for the end of October ! Thank you 😊

User

Fabulous Restaurant with great staff, great food and a really lovely ambience.

User

Cute and cosy place, great food and excellent service

User

A mistake was made with the cooking of my fish. Not only was I given a salad to eat while waiting for a fresh one but when the bill came they didn't charge for the fish. First rate service, and terrific food and atmosphere!

User

A lovely place with unique atmosphere, good service and tasty food. Something special.

User

2nd lunch in 2 weeks and I can't fault it. Sensible portions for the lunch menu and very reasonably priced. The wine was excellent too - we will be back

User

Lovely restaurant, unique building and lovely atmosphere. Food first class, happy to pay the twelve and a half percent service charge but would have been happier if it had been my choice and hadn't automatically been added to the bill.

User

Great Christmas day lunch, lovely atmosphere, good service and friendly staff. It also saved me another day in the kitchen!!!!

User

Every time I've been to Gees I've had excellent service, fantastic food and the atmosphere is just great. Excellent choice of food.

We go occasionally due to the price. Would prefer to choose how much we tip than have it automatically added to the bill.

We went today to celebrate my daughter's 28th Birthday.

User

Very nice place, aesthetically pleasing but not value for money. We weren’t pleased to find a considerable service charge added for just the 2 of us. There's better places in Oxford for value and quality.

User

The atmosphere is amazing, lovely place to go. Service could have been a little bit better though. The waiters need to pay more attention to who they are serving. They seemed to be busy.

User

Great atmosphere. Excellent staff. Food was pretty average, it was nice but nothing to write home about. Think pub grub.

User

Overall very poor. Food very poor, stay away from the wild boar. Other members of our party had to send food back. Projects an mage but fails to live up to it. Not really worth the money. On a plus point the staff were good. I didn't pay the service charge due to the quality overall.

User

It was a bit of a sentimental journey going back after many years. The decor is very different - not as lovely as I remember it but still a good atmosphere and service was very good. Unfortunately the food wasn't so good - a slightly lack-lustre gravidlax starter; a huge amount of fat on an otherwise tasty, tender cut of roast beef; and a panna cotta I could have drunk as it was so runny!...but accompanied by a very good, reasonably priced S African Shiraz. Overall, a disappointing meal considering it cost a fair bit but I would be willing to try out Gees again - perhaps an evening trip might prove better??

User

Great food and atmosphere but sadly the service we received was awful I haven't received such poor service in much lesser restaurants. Our waitress hardly spoke 2 words to us, threw our plates down on the table, tried to take them away before we had finished eating, was not polite and didn't smile once throughout the whole meal, put a dampener on a meal which otherwise could have been great.

User

Booked for a special meal with my son and husband. We all had the beef. Very expensive for portion size and beef was very very fatty. Veg was sparse - seemed we paid for the giant Yorkshire pud! Puddings were ok - although my fig and almond tart was tiny. Service was quick and effcicient but overall very big bill for a not so good meal. Didn’t make a fuss about beef as didn’t want to ruin a special celebration but wouldn’t go again
