Kingsley Mill

We are based at Kingsley Mill - a working mill that has been in operation since Saxon times.
In the early 19th century, long before modern modes of power, the mill relied on the mill pool to turn the giant wheel which rotated the milling stones . Unfortunqtely, the water wheel has long gone but the mill building still retains some of the original features from years gone by.

Farmers brought their corn in horse drawn carts to be milled and returned as animal feed or flour. Other feedstuffs which were incorporated into the animal feed came in barges up the River Weaver to nearby Pickerings Lock at Crowton.

The Mill pool is still here and is still an important feature - being home to many ducks, geese and lots of other wildlife and a lovely place to sit on a sunny day.

Kingsley Mill remains a working mill and produces a range of animal feeds for bothe leisure use and the farming industry.

Welcomed by lovely staff, who knew the menu, were friendly and most importantly had a sense of humour and personality, rather than the robots of mode cafe's and restaurants.

The food and the portions are spectacular.

The ciabatta steak is one of the best steaks I have eaten.

The chef came to the table to discuss the local produce (Where the steaks were bought) and how he cooked them.

5 stars doesnt do this place justice. Back again soon!

User

Thankyou for a lovely lunch. The staff were really friendly the atmosphere was lovely and the food was excellent

User

My sister and I visited here today after discovering they welcome dogs inside and we both had our dogs with us after having a walk on the sandstone trail.

The staff were very welcoming and friendly and also made quite a fuss of the dogs, bringing a water bowl over and offering treats.

We had afternoon coffee and scones with jam and cream which were delicious.

Will definitely visit again and try lunch as the food looked very tempting!

User

My favourite place to eat - absolutely love your food! Great service and value for money and brilliant that it's dog friendly - nice to see a very wiggly Springer Spaniel and lovely Jack Russell in today :)

User

Lovely breakfast. Lots of choice for traditionalists and something lighter for those not seeking a full English. Coffee was very tasty, staff lovely. Very clean and airy venue but not lacking in style/personality. Highly recommended.

User

Just had a lovely lunch at Gibson’s Kingsley Mill with my husband & almost 2 year old son.

We had only planned to go the Pet Store next door but popped in to see what was on offer.

Staff were very welcoming & let us choose where we wanted to sit.

Whilst we waited for drinks/food there was lots of toys to keep our son occupied. There is also a play park outside if you chose to sit out.

The cafe feels very homely, clean & comfortable.

Food was amazing & the staff couldn’t do enough for us.

We’ll definitely be back! X

User

User

User

A wonderful place to eat, the food is amazing we came for breakfast Saturday with our grandaughter and the two of us went back Sunday, we had sirloin steak cooked to perfection 10/10 thank you so much. We will be back.x

User

Visited today for my birthday and although the food was fabulous, the welcome from the staff was shocking (apart from our actual waitress who was lovely) clearly 'the manageress' did not like us - not sure why but everything was an inconvenience to her - lots of head shaking and dirty looks and some off her older staff clearly needed a customer services 'refresher'. The chef clearly knows his stuff and food was lovely and enjoyed by us all. I'm sure they will be happy to hear that we won't be going back !?

*********Visited today 20th November and can honestly say 5* food and service, so glad I gave this place another chance

User

Saddlery has been moved to the back of the shed and there's very limited stocks. Cafe has a very limited menu and friendliness of staff was varied - won't be making the trip again

User

Good food and a lovely place but when the staffs attitude can change after one simple (and fair) request it really does degrade the experience. We were met by a very friendly waitress who started to take our order but when asked if certain food could be left off a full english, smiles turned to frowns and sighs.

Apparently it was 'policy' to not remove things from a dish. Unless the full english breakfasts are pre-made which I sincerely hope they are not I do not understand this policy. It is no more effort to not include two items and much less of a waste.

When big chain supermarket cafes can fulfil this request with smiles and yet a small country cafe cannot it makes you wonder. Was it to make the plate not look so empty? Then don't fetch the toast on a separate plate.

Imagine having your car valeted and you ask them not to put the same air freshener in as they did last time because you simply didn't like it, only to be told its policy. You insist they leave it out and an annoyed attendant says they'll see what they can do. You come back to your car with ten of those air fresheners. Would you go back?
