Gilpin Hotel & Lake House

Loved our visit. Nice decor and great food. Tremendous service.

Just spent a fantastic couple of nights in a private spa lodge and we can't wait to return. Exceptional accommodation in a beautiful location, looked after by professional and engaging staff, and with a Michelin chef on site the food at both restaurants was superb (recommend Spice's sofa seating).

We were really impressed with the quality of the service. We had a meal in the Michelin star restaurant which was excellent, but even better than the food was the quality of the wine selection that went with it. Our room was also fantastic and we really enjoyed our private outdoor area with a hot tub!

Booked Afternoon Tea for hubby's birthday. Made us feel special great service, excellent staff, food fresh 10 out of 10. Would recommend.

I don't understand a single bad review for this place! Everything about our stay here was perfect. The lodges are beautiful, tranquil with a lovely view, sauna, jacuzzi, steam room, large shower and large bath. The hotel staff are wonderful, friendly, happy and just cannot do enough for you - you only have to ask. The staff are not arrogant or snobby, they are simply professional, leaving the decision on how friendly to be to you. Smile and talk to them and you will see them open up! Everybody was lovely. The food in the restaurant is just divine, we had the tasting menu with matching wines and did not have a single bad dish. It was stunning in looks and taste. I could easily have stayed much longer than a long weekend, our stay was out of this world.

Fabulous meal at Gilpin spice. One slight criticism is they serve water in metal cups that tainted the taste of the water.

Service, service, service...oh, and the food. Gilpin absolutely nails it on both fronts. Other hotels might match the quality of the decor and rooms but very few can match the quality of Gilpin's people. Personable, knowledgeable and clearly proud of the stunning hotel they run. Throw in some exquisite fine dining and you're in a lake land paradise.

We stayed at the Lake House in Ethel. Room was small, but cozy. No view from the bed. The Jetty Spa Trail was decent, though I think the description on the website was a bit misleading. The salt snug is just a sauna and the salt scrub just a bowl of salt in the pool bathroom. There wasn't a woodland trail, unless you count a few straggly trees along a walkway - certainly nothing like the photo. We also weren't fleece-lined wellies, just flip flops. Still, it was a pleasant experience. The tasting menu dinner was amazing! Sandwiches at lunch disappointing. Staff were very friendly throughout. We'd go back.
