Gisburn Forest Bike Trails Description

BB7 4TS
Located within the Forest of Bowland Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty
Gisburn Forest is the largest wooded area in Lancashire. We have a constantly developing bike trail network thanks to the hard work and dedication of our volunteer Trail Team and the hard work of Martin Colledge of the Forestry Commission. The plan is to gradually improve the MTBing resource in the forest for everyone from beginners to experts. This is an ongoing process and we're open to feedback and ideas.

Its been a bit windy, so please be aware that there could be trees/branches blocking the trails.
We are volunteers, so not at the forest, but if you report any issues below we'll text the FC guys who can get the chainsaws out and clear blockages.
Quicker we have them reported, quicker we can have them cleared.
... Thanks

Who else rides gravel bikes to, and round Gisburn?
Regrann from @theoneal__ - Finally got round to doing this ride from home to @gfbtrails and back again 🤙 didn't take as long as I thought but it was way more punishing on the way home than I thought 😬

Please be courteous to other forest users. Especially kids, don't hassle them on the trails. If.you want to "Strava" a segment and you catch some body up then tough, try again next time. If "racing" is what you want we suggest PMBA Enduro Series & Midweek Mountain Bike Madness for Enduro and XC needs.
Please read the feedback we just got below.
Hi. Just wanted to message after an incident there on Monday. My 13 year old daughter was cycling with her Dad, doing amazing, unt...il two male riders, flew up to her right on her back wheel shouting in a really aggressive tone for her to keep going. This happened just as she arrived at a technical downhill section. She was really scared as if she stopped or slowed down she was worried she'd cause a crash due to the men behind her and also because they were shouting at her she didn't know what to do. So she kept going. She fell off, sustaining amongst other injuries, a massive, very deep gash on her knee needing eight stitches. Up until this point she had had no incidents and was cycling amazingly well and had every right to be on that trail. This incident simply wouldn't have happened if these men hadn't acted so aggressively actually scaring her. They showed absolutely no respect for their fellow riders. My husband and I have mountain biked for years and totally get wanting to go fast and especially when with the children we constantly check behind us and if people are going faster we pull over as soon as it is safe to do so to let them pass. This all happened so fast that there was no chance to do this. They stopped only while my husband picked her up to move her off the trail. Thankfully some other riders stopped to help as she couldn't walk. Obviously this incident wasn't the fault of anyone to do with the forest and the trails but I just thought it was worth highlighting and that maybe a reminder to users that we share these amazing trails and that respecting other riders might just make people think and could prevent needless accidents like this happening. Many Thanks.

☹️ The big metal fence with diversion signs on it means the ‘Log Ride’ is CLOSED! Please don’t move them 🙄☹️ Next Dig day is at 10am on the 9th of September for anyone wanting to help out.

Well done! Lets get behind the cafe :)

Log ride closed as the woodwork needs repair. Small diversion is signed.
Expect it to be closed for rest of the year (it's only a small section to divert around)

Last chance to get booked on one or both of the full day skills sessions that are on next weekend. There's a Trail Skills course on Sat 18th and a Hops n Drops course on Sun 19th.
Both are suitable for intermediate riders looking to improve their riding.
Trail skills focuses on core work and includes the building blocks for everything we do such as balance, front wheel lifts, and cornering. ... Hops n drops sets you up for getting your wheels airborne safely!
Cost is £60pp for a full days coaching plus you get 20% off you lunchtime refreshments in the cafe! Bonus!
Contact Anthony at Trail Motions - mtb coaching and guiding for more info and to book.

Keep an eye out for this little fella while you’re out and about. Got lost in Slaidburn on Friday and still not home! Thanks 👍🏼

Rapidly becoming my favourite trail centre and only been a few times, not an overcrowded amusement park like llandegla can sometimes be. No real leg and lung killing climbs. And the trails aren't manicured to motorway smoothness (which is a good thing), in fact the first half of the red run is wonderfully natural and technical. It's honest with good flowing more natural terrain and mix of trails and they're all broken up perfectly. Even the north shore section is an option. The new long way down trail is great fun, and hully gully is showing its age a bit. Would benefit from a bike wash area though.

I have ridden Gisburn a few times and always enjoyed it. I Decided to take my eldest lad, who is a mountain bike virgin, this weekend for a ride around. Booked a hire bike for him from the cafe. We rocked up at 10:30 and the car park was already getting full. Cocklet car park was closed for logging operations so this didn't help the parking situation. Speaking of the car park, all day parking is still £3 which is a bargain.

After filling in the paperwork for the hire bike we hit the trails. The hire bikes all look to be in good mechanical condition. After a couple of miles in the hire bike developed a mechanical, the non drive side crank arm worked it's way loose and no amount of tightening it up cured the problem, it just kept working it's way loose. After limping back to the cafe the bike was swapped for another one, no questions and no hassle, well done to the cafe team. We hit the trails for a second time.

Due to the problem with the hire bike we only had time to do the lower loop of the eight. The blue sections are all in good condition and are ideal for beginners, smooth flowing single track. The red sections we tackled are quite technical but by no means beyond anybody who is confident and reasonably competent on a bike. My lad ( the mountain bike virgin ) especially enjoyed the lower red sections with Home Baked being his favourite ( that was so much fun I want to do that again were the first words out of his mouth at the end of it). This section is was built by hand and is very tight and twisty through the trees. My lad cleared this section without having an off which is more than can be said for me. There is a strong group of volunteers who help the fc build and maintain the trails and credit should go to these people for doing a fantastic job. The trails are lots of fun and feel quite natural in nature despite being a trail center. They are also quite hard, so they can be ridden in very wet conditions.

We gave the hire bike back and had the compulsory coffee and cake from the cafe which were both excellent. If your thinking riding Gisburn, stop thinking and start doing, you won't regret it.

Great trail centre, all weather riding - bit of everything - fast flowing, bit of tech, no bad climbs! Rocks, Roots and puddles! Just need a bit of TLC on the Hully Gully. Fab cafe and awesome homemade cakes - what more do you want!
