Modern bridal boutique selling British-made ethical and eco-friendly wedding gowns. We also offer a fully bespoke service and sell original vintage wedding gowns too.
Glory Days Bridal Description
YOUR EXPERIENCE
The tranquil boutique houses our unique collection of made-to-order designs which can be ordered in any size, under our design label Rolling In Roses. Through this label we produce ethical free-spirited wedding dresses which are an alternative choice to the high street; a collection of dresses which are stylish but understated, highly chic but easy to wear. These gowns are hand-made here in York for each individual bride using eco-friendly fabrics and traditional couture techniques. We are exclusive stockists of the complete Rolling In Roses collections, which can be viewed online at rollinginroses. co. uk. Alternatively, we offer a wide range of original vintage gowns ranging in age from 30 to 80 years old and have at least 100 original vintage wedding dresses in stock at any one time.
In your private appointment you can try on as many dresses as you desire and discuss which style dress will suit your personality and figure with our expert seamstress. Our mission is to make the experience as relaxed and stress-free as possible because we understand that wedding dress shopping can be nerve-wracking; we do our very best to make you feel at ease and we will NEVER give you the hard sell to buy a dress which isn't right for you. We love what we do, and to be able to help celebrate your love and the marriage of two souls is an honour and a joy. At the end of the day, Glory Days stands for love, and love alone.
Fittings at the bridal boutique are by appointment only. Appointments are available on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays - please contact us for more details.
SIZING + ALTERATIONS
All our collection dresses can be ordered in any size requested, or alternatively you can simply come and browse to gather ideas from which we can make you a bespoke dress using your individual measurements. The samples we have in the boutique go up to around a size 16 /18, with most of the samples being between a 10 and a 14.
Sadly, sizes of original vintage dresses are rarely above a modern size 16, but there are many ways to make dresses fit whether they are too big or too small.
Please don’t hesitate to ask if you have any queries at all; we cater for all brides from petite to curvy!
__________ __________ __________ __________ We offer an in-house alterations service so we can alter our dresses to fit you perfectly. This also means we can carry out bespoke customisations so you can personalise your dress by lowering necklines or shortening hems, removing sleeves or changing the sleeve style altogether. We can add hand-beading and embroidery, Swarovski crystals or vintage lace to help achieve the perfect look for you. Over the years we have made every style of gown imaginable so if you have any special request just shout; your wish is our command!
PRICING + TIME FRAMES
Our Rolling In Roses dresses are between £1100 and £1950, with most being around £1600. The price range for our vintage dresses is generally between £350 and £750. Bespoke prices start at £1, 700 plus the cost of fabric; each unique dress design varies in price and will be quoted for on an individual basis.
The vintage dresses can be purchased and taken away on the day, but for the made-to-order dresses we ask for at least 4 months and the bespoke service at least 6 months. Having said this, sometimes rush orders can be made for an additional fee so it’s always worth asking even if your schedule is a bit tight!
BESPOKE SERVICE
Alongside our curated selection of vintage dresses and made-to-order collection designs we offer a bespoke dressmaking service which means we can create any style of dress you could possibly dream of, made to measure to fit your figure perfectly. Our couture creations can be entirely designed by you or by us, or they can simply be a direct copy of a vintage dress you have fallen in love with. We go through the whole design process together from initial inspiration images to design sketches and fabric samples, through to measuring you up and drafting your own individual dress pattern and creating the wedding dress of your dreams.
ABOUT US
Following an epiphany which struck whilst on a depressingly uninspiring shopping trip to help find wedding dresses for her sister, Hayley made her dreams a reality and opened the boutique in York in March 2012. Taking the name 'Glory Days' from the Pulp song she herself walked down the aisle to on her wedding day, she set out with a wish to offer an alternative choice of dress for the off-the-beaten-track bride.
Our aim is to provide wedding dresses for women who are looking for something different to the high street. From edgy rock and roll chic to classic Hollywood elegance, Glory Days aspires to be the antidote to all the boring bridal shops full of the same old strapless dresses covered in bling. With a focus on more organic silhouettes and the belief that bridal gowns can be both glamorous AND comfortable, we create dresses that work effortlessly with the natural figure of each individual bride. We want our brides to walk down the aisle showing their personalities, loving their dress as much as their lover and looking sexy and cool as hell.
GD is run with an ethical and eco-friendly focus; we recycle all our fabric offcuts, pay our staff above the national living wage, and are conscious of everything from using paper tape instead of Sellotape on our dress patterns to making sure we have earth-friendly toilet paper in our ladies’ room!
BACKGROUND
Glory Days was founded by Hayley Claire Neil - dressmaker, costume designer and vintage devotee. Having developed a passion for fashion history and design at an early age, Hayley designed, sewed, sketched and embroidered her way through school, gained a degree in costume design at the Edinburgh College of Art and went on to work as a freelance costume designer, maker, and assistant in the enchanting realms of theatre and film.
Gaining experience with respected companies such as the West Yorkshire Playhouse, Trafalgar Studios, Channel 4, Warp Films, and the BBC, Hayley has been lucky enough to have worked on productions like Othello (starring Lenny Henry), the 2009 Pussycat Dolls tour, This Is England '86, and Bifa, Bafta, and Oscar winning films Kill List, Tyrannosaur, and The Kings Speech. Hayley also supervised the costumes for a Jake Bugg music video directed by Shane Meadows in 2012, before devoting herself full time to the Glory Days vision.
Hayley can usually be found poring over old costume history books, collecting myriad inspiration images and dreaming up new designs, or sitting at the sewing machine or drafting table creating new dresses. Otherwise you might come across her dancing in festival fields or walking in the Yorkshire moors, hunting through antique shops or having a pint in the pub with friends. A Yorkshire girl born and bred, Hayley is proud to base her design and construction right here in England.

When I started my dress journey I was really worried I’d never find anything that was ‘me’ I aren’t a typical bride and I was sure I’d end up settling for something. I was wrong!
Today I saw the finished article, OMG! My bespoke dress is everything I’d hoped and more. Hayley took my ideas and created something absolutely beautiful.
From my first visit to choosing materials to trying on....every appointment got better and better. Hayley made myself and my Mum feel so welcome and so at ease. Having your dress made from scratch is quite a nerve wracking thing, but i knew instantly Hayley was the dress maker for me!

I was finding the thought of looking for a wedding dress pretty daunting but Hayley made sure it was a really brilliant and relaxed experience. I felt instantly at ease in the lovely rooms and looking through the rails of dresses was an absolute delight as there are so many gorgeous gowns to look at, in so many different styles. Hayley was so patient and gave me plenty of time to think and choose as well as offering her thoughts. Hayley was also able to skillfully alter the dress to make it perfect so I really can't praise her enough!

I stumbled across the shop online and booked an appointment still not knowing what to expect, when I went in I was in heaven the dresses are amazing honestly was breath taking the amount of dresses all different styles and unique. I knew she was 'the one'; the person I wanted to make my special gown from our very first meeting at her cool studio in York. Hayley just got it and was fantastic throughout the whole process. Exceptionally talented and highly recommended.
Hayley made my dream 1950s-style wedding dress back in 2012. She made the entire process extremely enjoyable, exciting and stress-free. She understood immediately the look I was after, and even managed to find the exact fabrics I wanted in the exact colours I wanted, even though they were very specific... I'm sure it wasn't as easy as she made out! An extremely talented seamstress with an eye for detail. For breathtaking vintage creations, bridal or otherwise, it has to be Glory Days.

I was able to choose the colour and tailor certain details of the dress. The finish was sublime and I would (and have) recommend Glory Days to any bride to be!
Glory Days has a great range of dresses. It's really refreshing to see so many different styles. Hayley was really welcoming and friendly, and was also very patient as I tried as many different dresses as took my fancy. I ended up choosing a style I wouldn't have considered before, but it looked great, especially with some tweaking by Hayley to get a brilliant modern fit.
Beautiful, talented, passionate and patient are all the skills needed in a dress maker and Hayley has all these in abundance. She made me feel spectacular on my wedding day with my amazing 3/4 length wedding dress and birdcage veil. Perfect fit, perfect feel and perfect environment to make you feel really special.
