About Gloucestershire Bike Project

We are a community bike project, selling lovingly refurbished bikes at affordable prices and aiming to build a resillient biking community locally.

Gloucestershire Bike Project Description

Gloucestershire Bike Project is a not for profit social enterprise, set up by bike mad volunteers. For us it's all about the bikes. We take bikes that are donated by the public and lovingly refurbish them and sell them at affordable prices. We now stock new Trek bikes and Bontrager accessories.

We work on a really wide range of bikes, from vintage classics like the old 50s Raleighs with rod brakes, through classic 70s, 80s and 90s Racers, MTBs, BMXs and everything in between.

We run free bike repair workshops for anyone who is interested in learning how to do their own repairs, so if you too are a bike nut, come along, you'll be in good company.

We run free young peoples bike building workshops and maintenance course sfor young people who are interested in learning the art of bike repair.

We are always keen to work with other groups or individuals who are interested in all things bike, so get in touch if you think there may be ways of us working together.

We work with a wide range of volunteers, who come to us for very different reasons, the one thing we all have in common is bike love, so if you have a bit of time and enjoy tinkering with bikes, we'd love to have you.

We also run groups and workshops for other charities and organisations, where individual clients are given a bike to refurbish and keep as a healthy mode of transport, this is dependent on funding we can raise or the funds from the bikes we sell. We also offer paid for courses and workshops for both individuals and organisations such as NEET providers.

We are constantly looking at ways we can support people in choosing to cycle if they want to and each year we raise funds to set up a variety of initiatives such as our fee bike loan scheme.

I have a great job, I get to see the kindness of others and be part of that chain. Today we met Ty, a young man who is moving into independent living having left care. His support worker from Key2Futures contacted us to tell us about this lad who she is supporting. He is trying to make a life for himself and is looking for work and to build a positive future. He needs to be able to get around so he can attend job interviews and eventually find a job. But being a care leaver h...e doesn't have a lot of money for public transport etc. As there is a 3 month wait to get on our free bike building project we decided to donate him a bike and lock. The bike is one that was donated to us by Gloucestershire Constabulary as it was a bike they had recovered but not been able to find the owner of. So our volunteers refurbished it and we coded it and registered it on BikeRegister. Ty was so grateful and really impressed to know that Gloucestershire Constabulary & Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner for Gloucestershire supported young people and community initiatives in this way. He will be joining us to learn how to maintain his bike when we have a space on the course. He is a really nice lad and has offered to help us when we do a Free Dr Bike in the summer. He was really keen to pay us back with his time. We wish him so well, he deserves good things in his life. It is just so nice to be part of a positive experience for a young person who maybe hasn't had enough of those in his life. Thank you to everyone, individually and as organisations who donates bikes to us. You make things like this happen.

We cannot thank the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner for Gloucestershire and the Gloucestershire force enough for making this happen. This partnership will mean that hundreds of young people in the county will be able to take part in our free build a bike project over the next few years. Owning a bike means that young people can access opportunities, get from a 2 b, stay fit and active. They also build skills and confidence while working on their bikes and develop a true sense of ownership of their work. It's a great process and thanks to the hard work of everyone who made this happen, we can be confident that we will always have a bike for each young person that attends. Everybody at the bike project is truly grateful.
