Dads - you're not alone! They are developing a series of videos on the following social media pages: https://www.facebook.com/Notaloneuk/ https://twitter.com/NotAloneUK .
They are also seeking volunteers from Dads and Partners who would like to talk about their experiences. If this is something of interest or you require further details, please contact Michael Squire - Mikesquire@activeconnections.org in confidence.

Love your liver! On Thursday 26th July our teams are running a Love Your Liver stand in the atrium at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital from 10am – 4pm. This is supported by our liver specialist nurses, alcohol inpatient team, viral hepatitis nurses and consultant Dr Hollywood. This event is taking place ahead of world Hepatitis day which takes place on the 28th. As well as being available for advice and support about liver issues and alcohol, you will find a wide range of usefu...l information leaflets available. You will also be able to see our fibroscanner in action. A fibroscanner is a quick, immediate and painless non-invasive that measures liver health and is used to assess patients with a variety of problems. As part of the day, we’ll be celebrating our amazing new therapy success for patients with Hepatitis C. If you’re concerned about your liver health, or that of someone you know, why not come along and chat to the team.

As the school holidays approach, we’re reminding parents about the best place to take their children when they are unwell. Children’s emergency services and our children’s centre for the whole county have been at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital (GRH) for many years now, so our advice to parents is that if your child is seriously ill, call 999 and/ or, bring them to the Emergency Department at GRH, where specialist Children’s Emergency staff are available 24/7. The leaflet for... parents has been designed to give useful advice via an easy-to-use green, amber, red guide. This is not a change and has been the case for a number of years, but we know that some parents are not aware of this. Children with minor illness should preferably be seen by their GP initially and Community Minor Injury and Illness Units in the county can also see children with things like minor cuts and wounds and sprains.

We're calling for entries for our Patient's Choice award for 2018. Would you like to see an individual or team who has been involved in your care recognised for their work? It's quick and easy to nominate someone, and means a lot to everyone involved: http://bit.ly/2r4Fgd1
Last year, these people chose to take the time to nominate, and this is what they had to say: https://youtu.be/G4GagIWV0mg

Our Emergency Departments are really busy today and we anticipate we will get busier later today. therefore we are asking everyone to use services responsibly.
If you do not really need emergency treatment today, for minor injuries or ailments visit your nearest minor injury unit, visit your pharmacy or if you need urgent health advice call your GP surgery.
Alternatively visit: asapglos.nhs.uk to see your options or if out of hours call: NHS 111

User

Our emergency departments are very busy again today, so once again we urge you to consider if another service could serve your needs - like a minor injuries unit, GP or pharmacist. Check out www.asapglos.nhs.uk for information and opening times. Our EDs really should be saved for life threatening, serious injuries or illness - and if in doubt, PLEASE call 111 for help and advice. Our live waiting times for Gloucester and Cheltenham are on our website: https://www.gloshospita...ls.nhs.uk
We know that a lot of people are struggling in the heat, so please follow this advice: - drink plenty of fluids - avoid the midday sun - wear sunscreen - wear a hat - rest

At the end of this day of celebrations for #NHS70, we are grateful to everyone whoparticipated in the celebrations at both hospitals. Thank you to everyone who got involved and shared their photographs of the day as well as their memories. Of course, it was business as usual today as well, so we were still helping babies to be born, seeing GP referrals, treating patients in our emergency departments, processing pathology requests, running our operating theatres, admitting patients, caring for patients on our wards, seeing outpatients and many, many more things that our staff do every day to care for patients. Thanks to all of them! https://spark.adobe.com/video/RNuNlwdUQrb sU

So everyone has been celebrating with tea parties on the wards today and stepping away from their duties briefly to celebrate #NHS70. Thanks to everyone who has put so much into making today such a feel-good day for staff. Here a just a few of our #NHSselfies!

We rushed in with our 19 month crying and not using his arm. We were seen within 30 mins and the dr manipulated his arm so fast we didn’t even notice it happening. Out and smiling within the hour- unbelievable. Thank you so much.

Recently had to use Gloucestershire's emergency services and Gloucester Royal women's centre. I cannot speak highly enough of the service we received. Paramedic arrived within 10 mins! And although we waited for 3 hours in A and E (which is to be expected) we were referred to a clinic to be seen the next day (bearing in mind we left A and E at 2am) we were seen at the clinic by 9am the next morning! The support and advice from staff was second to none. I'm so grateful to have these services on our doorstep. Thank you.

People Who rate OUR NHS anything less than 5* need to reevaluate just where they are, our NHS is the envy of the world!!! We are so lucky to have this service! The commitment and dedication of the staff - on every level is both requisite as well as conscientious.

Gloucester Royal Hospital is a FLAGSHIP of care excellence - if your scoring OUR NHS anything less that 5* SHAME on you!!

Our 3 year old sadly broke his leg on a trampoline last Thursday...when we arrived in ED Cheltenham it was terribly busy but the staff were so kind, caring and professional thank you so much for looking after us, in particular ANP Kate and HCA Tracey in the plaster room who we saw again today! Sorry I can't remember the ladies names in X-ray! I also work for the trust and felt proud of the service we deliver thanks again

My grandfather was admitted to Gloucester Royal in the early hours of Monday morning with heart problems. Unfortunately he passed away yesterday evening after being transferred to Cheltenham for an emergency procedure to attempt to try and save his life. The care and attention both he and my family received was second to none, from the ambulance staff to the doctors and nurses within Hartpury Suite, and the CCU. I myself work for the trust and it couldn’t of made me prouder to be a nurse than to see my colleagues working so hard to support us all through this very sad time. Many thanks from the Jones’. Keep up the marvellous work xx

My 93 year old nan was sent into Chelt a and e tonight query heart attack the care she received was absolutely fantastic. The paramedics were so caring and even came back to see how she was doing and say bye. An agency nurse called Andrew Brown looked after her in resus and he is an absolute credit to his agency so caring and explained everything so well adapting his communication very well to my nan who is very deaf. Well done all of you x

Last week my son was admitted with a bad case of viral bronchilitis. The hospitals staff were outstanding from his initial assessment on PAU to his stay on the ward for 6 days, and then a return visit after being discharged. Nothing was to much trouble for your staff and they all made the difficult time a little more bearable. Thumbs up to one of your agency nurse too, ‘mark’. He is a credit to the job and worth his weight in gold. Thank you all.

Last week I spent 5 days on Prescott Ward at Cheltenham General and would like thank all of the staff for making the stay much more bearable. The porters who work tirelessly ensuring patients arrive on time for their x-rays/CT’s/procedures and transfers - all the while being as cheery as possible (Steve and Nigel - thank you!) - the cleaners who keep the Ward spotless, the housekeeping staff who make sure patients are kept watered and fed, the wonderful nursing staff who try and make to stay as comfortable as possible (Deb, Estelle, Sarah, Emma, Josie, Josie and a Wesley to name only a few) and of course the doctors - I myself am a Nurse and my hat goes off to you all working on this busy Surgical Ward - you really are worth your weight in gold. Even though the Ward was very busy, a calmness was ever present, it is clear that the staff all get on and enjoy their jobs - it was certainly very evident during my stay. In the nicest possible way I hope I never have the pleasure of meeting you all again - but I know if I have to spend time on Prescott again - I’ll have no worries THANK YOU

I have worked for Gloucester Hospital for many years manly in Intensive Care. It is a very busy and often stressful place to work, but we are part of a very special multidisciplinary team of Clerical, O.T's, Physiotherapists, Pharmacists, Domestics, Store suppliers, Catering, Students, Doctors Nurses and Porters. It's our 'work family' and why so many of us have worked there for over 20 years I hope we make a difference to our patients and families, whether days old or nearly 100. We are there when you need us most. X

I attended the Day Surgery Unit at Gloucester Royal for a procedure.

People are very quick to criticise the NHS these days but I wanted to thank and compliment all of the staff who looked after me today and ensured everything went to plan. I was kept informed, reassured and was given the highest standard of care pre and post operation.

I work in the NHS and I often whitness negatively towards a service that is under tremendous pressure. On what I whitnessed today I am proud and so very lucky to work in and use this wonderful service.

Thank you GRH day surgery unit all of you are fantastic!

For the last 2 1/2 weeks my Grandmother who has dementia has been an inpatient following a nasty fall. Initially she was on 4B then Gallery ward. I work for the Trust and know how important feedback is- especially positive feedback. On 4B I observed a HCA ( didn't get her name) give such kind, compassionate and appropriate care in some really challenging situations. On Gallery ward another HCA ( didn't catch her name but she wants to be a midwife) demonstrated such professionalism and again kindness with my Grandmother. All of the HCA staff i encoutered were friendly and polite. A real credit to the Trust. Being on the 'other side' as a relative was difficult but I am very impressed with all the HCA staff I encountered- well done everyone and thank you

User

A week ago today after heading back from a wonderful first family holiday my sister in law found me collapsed at home, I was brought straight to GRH and with in hours it became clear I was very ill. I had sepsis in both my pelvis and my chest - I was diagnosed with pneumonia and a nasty pelvic infection and was struggling to recover as they would have expected. It's been a very scary week and I have to thank so many people for keeping me here - but mainly I want to say thank you to the NHS!! Everyone on ward 9A and the respiratory team have been more than extraordinary with my care and they even got me home in time to see my son on his very 1st Birthday!!! Thank you thank you thank you x

Having just spent the past 3 days in Gloucester Royal Hospital with Influenza A, I cannot believe how professional and dedicate the staff are, despite the current climate and issues effecting the trust. From A&E to those working on Ward 4a the care has been, as the CQC would say, Good. Why not Outstanding? We I have been in isolation for my stay, for obvious reasons, and sometime I felt I had been forgotten. Once buzzed, the staff came quickly. The treatment was Outstanding, I was treated for both Influenza and Viral Meningitis while we waited for the test results meaning I was already being treated no matter the result. So why not 5 stars? Well, the room I was in on 4a was Poor. There are holes in the paintwork and blood spots on the plaster. There is no TV on the wall making it very boring when your in isolation. The shower is no more than a trickle. The rooms were not very clean and when the cleaner did come round, she tickled the floor, I know she didn't do a good job as some biscuit crumbs my kids dropped are still on the floor now. She used the same cloth she wiped the bins with to wipe the sink and then the paper towel holder. I know money is tight, but a little spent on making the facilities better wouldn't go amiss. The final gripe that the cleaner kept leaving the door open, which when your in isolation is a no no but what makes it worse is when you have had 8 lumber punctures is getting out of bed to close the door to try and prevent spreading the infection. Overall, from a medical point of view, I could not have been in safer hands and feel blessed we have the NHS, however, a little work to do with Facilities.

You couldn’t make this stuff up. My brother in law had a major brain injury and had his blood pressure taken yesterday. He phoned the doctor with the result and they have told him to go out and buy a blood pressure machine, take his own blood pressure for a week and then see the doctor with the results in a weeks time.

Can’t believe it.

No way to treat a 70 year old who is just about house bound until he can get better.
