Had a Christmas meal here last night..best we'd all ever tasted.Love the place , staff lovely ..food excellant..way too much for us to eat x This was our second visit, we found it last year as somewhere to have a meal after attending the Christmas market in York as we were staying in the village and even though we stayed in Dunnington this year we returned and wernt disappointed.Only thing we need now is for them to do B&b so we can retire to our rooms to sleep off the fantastic meal x highly recommended xxx

Great pub. Would happily go back and eat there again. I had chicken with Brie, tomato and basil sauce. My husband had fish pie (salmon and prawns topped with potatoes). Both came with a generous serving of sides and the food was delicious. 4* because the pub was very quiet, but probably because we were a bit late for lunch. Dog friendly. Staff were great, smiley and helpful. Pool table too!

We went out for a meal last night at the Gold Cup Inn. Firstly, it was a miracle that we found our table as it took three members of staff to find it! However, the wine was pleasant... that's all I can say as a compliment.
When my companion sat down and asked if they had a gluten free menu- as she suffers from a severe form of Coeliac disease meaning that if she even has a mouthful of a gluten-containing food then she will be severely ill for the rest of the night and in a large amount of discomfort- the waitress simply said 'no'. My friend, knowing that it was illegal to be unable to provide information on which foods contained gluten then asked if the waitress knew what was gluten free, she said yes and then walked off. Therefore my friend was none the wiser about what she could eat.
Anyway, the waitress came over and took mine and my other friend's order, as we don't have any specific dietary requirements. Then she looked at my friend with coeliac disease for her order. My friend asked if the chips were gluten free, to which the waitress said a resounding and confident yes, like we were stupid, to which my friend asked, just to double check, if they had a separate fryer so they weren't contaminated with flour from other deep-fried foods. The waitress then said no, they're fried with other things. So, that would be they contain gluten then? The fact that the serving staff were so lax on knowing what was gluten free, when it could severely harm someone, was appalling. So my friend asked for some chicken with brie and tomato sauce, which we were assured was gluten free.
The food arrived promptly and the gluten containing dishes were delicious and we had no complaints. Then my friend started feeling rather ill and her stomach started churning resulting in a trip to the bathroom; she had been poisoned. It was not the main meal, granted, but it was the side dish of vegetables which contained some vegetables in a gluten-containing sauce. Why, when someone asks if the food is gluten free wouldn't you be aware, as you are required to be by law, of the foods and sauces which contain wheat and gluten? I can't get over how appalling this was, as my friend was then considerably ill for the rest of the evening.
