A treasure from the @stbridefoundation collection. Letters of the Roman Alphabet. Designed by G. B. Palatino c. 1540. The original block is in Berlin and this copy was recut in end-grain boxwood, and commissioned by Stanley Morison, and used on the cover of the April/May issue of the Monotype Recorder in 1931. The craft in this carving is just astounding. So lucky to have been shown it.

Very sad news about the passing of #vaughanoliver as we start the new year. Incredible talent and hugely influential designer. RIP, he will be greatly missed. From our archives, a beautiful exhibition catalogue designed by Vaughan for his Los Angeles show ‘This Rimy River’ from back in 1994.
