Our member of the month for July was Claire Percy!
If you have time, please read her short blog below on how being consistent and hard working can yield results!
The Grantham Meres team are very proud of you Claire!
... 'My first time working through the routine was a killer. I struggled to do more than 5 or 6 minutes on the lateral trainer. I was shattered and had to go home for a sit down! Then the advice started to come. Try using myfitnesspal to log your food. Just keep going even if you can't do it all. Then my questions came... Poor Jon and his team must have answered thousands of 'but how do I...', 'have you got 5 minutes to show me...'. Eight weeks in. I'd conquered TRX, the lateral, lost about 6 kilos, began to change my body composition. My confidence to be in the gym skyrocketed. I began classes. Then the big changes came. By week 12 I'd lost 21cm all over. To date - 10cm off my waist (and I really don't do ab work!) My first spin class ended with me nearly getting off the bike after 20mins I felt so sick. But now 5 or 6 spin classes later I've got this. I'm not fast, but I am stronger so I'm always pushing up the resistance on those heavy sprints. My biggest achievement. The big thing where I really felt amazed at myself was doing GRIT strength for the first time. Curtis always says 'you get fit for the class by doing the class'. Jon coaxed me in one day after spin... I spent the rest of the day bouncing I was chuffed with my achievement. Why? I'd set myself the target of doing GRIT by Christmas. So I'd hit it 6 months early. Now I regularly go to spin, GRIT, yoga, TRX and Body Pump. And amaze myself each week. I feel amazing! I have so much more energy. I feel strong, fit and so much happier in my skin. Whilst I do the work. The lads in the gym support and encourage. All you have to do is ask... Or provide chocolate occasionally! My next target? Go down another dress size, complete a Tough Mudder, do 20 full press ups and squat my own weight. Easy by Christmas right?'

We joined the Meres as a family about 8 months ago and we couldn’t be happier with the membership. We swim at least twice a week and have got to know a few of the life guards who have been amazing. They have all been so helpful with regards safety and how to enjoy the swimming pools. Our daughter has just completed 16 lengths on a distance night and that is down to the lessons she has been having and the advice given on our family swims, she is only six years old and we are very proud of her achievement. The facilities are brilliant including the gym. You get an induction with your membership and this was very helpful, very specific to your needs and goals. Many thanks to all of the staff at the Meres for our continued enjoyment we get as a family.

Visiting relatives in Grantham and took a grit class it was brilliant. The instructor was very welcoming and friendly and definitely knew his stuff. Called me out straight away as a fellow grit instructor!! Will come again next time we visit!

User

Thanks to all the staff who pulled out all the stops this weekend to make our event a success. From reception, lifeguards, duty managers, cafe staff and the lovely cleaning lady. You were all great.

User

We came to see "Big Girls Don't Cry " on Saturday a first for us at Myers and it was brilliant the bar and staff were all attentive except out tickets were not looked at once and there was 4 of us any one could have walked in ,but on a whole it was really good the show was top class will defiantly go again

User

The center was warm and welcomeing the saff were very polite and helpfull ,the view from the balcony was great but one criticism is that the steps on the balcony are a bit too steep for elderly folks and could

do with handrails to aid decent and assent ,in fact one lady did fall over going down the steps but overall a vry good vist one we will repeat regulary

User

I was at the pool today when there was an incident where a little boy had some trouble and was under the water (as far as I can tell he is fine now) the reaction from the life guards was fantastic, all kids were out the pool and lined up very quickly. Whilst I agree with the state of the changing rooms on most reviews, the calm and very quick reactions today were impressive. Great to know my kids are in safe hands

User

Did my first class on Tuesday body pump really enjoyed it staff really good especially Adam who sorted my 7 day free pass out and booked my classes for me brilliant customer service well done and many thanks.

My daughter has twice cut her legs on the tiles at the deep end when getting out of the pool. The staff showed general concern and care, which is why it is a 3 not lower. The tiles need to be looked at and repaired, especially as when my daughter is in her lesson she doesn't have the option to use the steps, she has to climb out trying to dodge the sharp tiles.

User

I use the swimming pool, on one occasion when the water was so cold I had to get out after only swimming one length I complained to the lifeguard his reply was its the normal temperature darling, I don't appreciate being called darling in a condescending tone by a young man who looks likes he's about 12!

User

I swim regularly and always used shoe protectors if available.I took my Granddaughter to her swimming lesson last night and as we walked to the shoe protector box i couldn't see any. we went through anyway and i stood at the poolside. The manager came towards me with a pair of protectors and asked me if i am standing on the poolside to wear them. I started to explain i normally wear them but there wern`t any and he said he could assure me there were. I am sorry but i am not a liar and i don`t appreciate being called one. On closer inspection on the way out there were some right in the back of the box but not visible on first sight. This to me was dreadful customer service. I was very upset by the way he spoke to me.

User

Went to a 'general swim' on Thursday evening, to find that only the main pool was open. But to my horror only one lane was open as swim school was on and you could only lane swim ! To me this is not a general swim ! Then we found a dirty nappy just sat on the floor of the changing rooms.....

User

Well all pools were absolutely freezing changing room too. Came out not being to feel my fingers won’t be wasting my money here again

User

We went swimming today first we was allowed in one pool to be told we had to move to another pool, then we was moved to yet another pool. The changing rooms were awful and the 3 pools we went in was cold. Will not visit this dump again

User

We usually love Grantham meres and go regularly as a family. I’ve heard people complain about it in the past but I’ve always thought for a local leisure centre that is very busy smelly toilets is a given. However today we were very disappointed. All pools were absolutely freezing if we were made aware to be honest my husband a four year old probably still would of gone in but myself and my one year old would of given it a wide birth. Complained at the front desk to be told there wasn’t an issue with temperature (there was people were blue. Also heard staff talking about it) receptionist did say there was an issue with the freezing showers. Again wouldn’t of put us off but could of been made aware of the problem. It would take two minutes to print a sign off while she was sat there on her phone. Customer service totally went out the window today. Very disappointed.

User

Today simply awful. Arrived at 1100 no signs outside no updates on Facebook or website to be told no inflatable and also no slide. Staffing issues ( again..... used last time and time before that). Boys still want to go in so we did changing rooms filthy (prob due to staff issues) get in main pool and it's considerably colder than usual and no floats ( staff issues) so move between all pools ending up getting out after 30 mins.

No one to intentionally taste the water but I know what clean water tastes like and the pool tasted like a gym sock ( or what I assume one tastes like..sweaty).

Not happy.

Not first time I've moaned but first time in posting.

I was a member of Grantham meres for a year before deciding to cancel and join a gym closer to home. In 2018 I decided to rejoin. Despite me cancelling in 2017 Grantham meres were still taking the payments for over a year and had charged me twice per month for the four months of 2018. I have spoken to the finance company that take the payment and have it in writing the payments were taken in error. Despite Ryan the manager admitting their error and initially agreeing to pay the money back to me he now refuses to answer my emails or take my phone calls and I haven't received a penny back. This company owes me over £400. I would urge anyone that has any direct debits set up with them to check your bank statements very carefully each month, and anyone looking to join I would advise going to another gym as there as several good ones in Grantham! Also the changing rooms were usually dirty.

User

I come here every week for my daughter's lesson and the changing rooms are always smelly, the toilets are disgusting, the showers often lukewarm and they rarely have the full services available, with at least one leisure pool and the slide closed. Our lesson was cancelled last week and a week later the swimschool manager is no closer to being able to give me an answer re: a refund. If I had paid via a lump sum and not direct debit I would have been credited already. They have the most appalling system for refunds and the cost has been increased without notification!

User

Having been a member of the meres for 6+ years I can honestly say that Carter PT is the only reason I left. He would continuously go up to women and force people to go to his Boot camp, He wouldn't leave young girls alone and even though I made it clear I already had a personal trainer he still kept on messaging me. He is border line harassing people to use his services. He made my friend have an eating disorder, she used to be healthy and now is seriously underweight all so he could take her before and after photos and made a remark that her photos got him 3 new clients. Disgusting. I did a free session with him which turned out to be the exact same workout he does with everybody else so definitely not worth paying for. It's a shame he now works at the leisure centre as previously I enjoyed that place very much.

User

First visit in over ten years for my granddaughters first swimming lesson, wow the smell in the changing room is disgusting! After reporting this to staff, I was advised ‘it’s been like this for over twenty years’... why hasn’t anything been done? It’s a shame I will be looking for another swim school for my granddaughter!
