Poole Barbering Academy is managed by Mike Taylor Education - an award winning Barbering training academy. Pop in or book for all Barbering services.

Barber College is the training arm for the British Barber's Association. We have two training academies, One in Poole, Dorset and the other in Basingstoke, Hampshire.

Barber College, in partnership with ESG, provide NVQ barbering courses.

This is a vocational, work-based course which allows you to earn while you learn. It is ideal if you want to gain valuable work experience and training within a barbering environment and gain a nationally recognised qualification.

We provide cutting edge training, to high industry standards, and our learners and tutors take part in the British Barbers' Association (BBA) National Student Competition. Our courses are also accredited and approved by the BBA.

What will I learn?

The Barbering Apprenticeship is made up of three key elements:

A National Vocational Qualification (NVQ)
Key Skills
Employment rights and responsibilities.

This is a full-time, permanent work-based Apprenticeship in Barbering. You enjoy on-the-job training towards nationally recognised qualifications at Levels 2 and 3, guided by our professional assessors who provide one-to-one support and advice throughout your programme.

You usually start your training at Level 2, depending on your qualifications and ability. We identify this at your initial assessment.

What skills will I gain?

The course content covers the following subject areas:

Shampooing and conditioning
Cutting and trimming
Cut throat
Assisting with colouring
Reception duties
Consultations with clients
Selling hair care products

Who should apply?

Anyone can apply for this course who is interested in a barbering career path. As long as you are aged 16 to 64 and not in full-time education we can help. You might already have a job and be looking for work-based training, or you might want to find a job that comes with training through esg. We have great relationships with hundreds of local businesses and will help you find your career path.

Salon based sessions take place in:
Poole - Mondays from 4pm - 8pm
Basingstoke - Tuesdays from 5pm - 9pm
Poole - Wednesdays from 4pm - 8pm
