About Great Comp Gardens

Great Comp Garden close to Sevenoaks, a well-kept secret in the gardening world. A Garden full of exotic plants, collection of ruins and The Old Dairy Tearooms! Open daily from 1st March - Oct 31st, 10am - 5pm.

Great Comp Gardens Description

Over the years, Great Comp Garden in Platt, close to Sevenoaks, has gained a reputation among plant hunters and plantsmen alike as being Kent’s finest Spring garden. The extensive collection of Magnolias and ever increasing collection of early flowering perennials and spring bulbs have made a visit there a must at the start of the gardening year.

The delightfully quirky garden is the creation of the late Roderick and Joy Cameron who moved to the 17th Century Manor in 1957 with the idea of developing the garden into a plantsman’s delight.

Roderick and Joy rolled up their sleeves and created an eccentric hide away in Platt, complete with an Italian Garden, explorable ruins and a garden which now boasts one of the best displays of Magnolias, Azaleas, Salvias, Crocosmias, Dahlias and other exotic plants in the region.

One of the very best in England. Too bad it hasn't been recognized by more gardeners "in the know"! It has it all in 7 acres!

Just love this beautiful garden... so well looked after & very interesting...the tea room is excellent too. We even bought some deliciously fresh rare bread chicken eggs here! What a treat! Highly recommend visiting.

Ps: Please... whoever looks after your Facebook page, how about Posting daily pictures of your beautiful gardens, plants & flowers we would love to see them.

Just beautiful in the late Autumn mist. Can't wait until it opens again next year.

Had a lovely afternoon yesterday at the gardens with family - what a find ! So beautiful and very peaceful.

Enjoyed a pot of tea and great cake in the tea rooms. I have told all my friends about it .

User

Fabulous little gem of a garden. Surprises at every turn. A riot of summer colour. After two visits I'm still not convinced I've seen it all. The Old Dairy tea room is excellent - good food at a reasonable price, in delightful surroundings.

User

Came across Great Comp Gardens by chance . Had a lovely afternoon meandering around the beautiful gardens with my mum and her friend. The colours were stunning. The tea room was delightful and the cake was yummy , will definitely be back .

Beautifully laid out gardens and woodland. Very good quality plants for sale.. Excellent Cafe. Good stalls, Jazz and Pimms.

The only thing that spoilt the day was a lack of Ladies Toilets. To queue for 15 minutes is to Long. Need more portable toilets.

User

Beautiful. So much to see. Difficult to resist the Salvia's in the nursery.

User

Beautiful tranquil gardens. Our first visit but will definitely be back and bring rest of family x

User

Autumn colour is wonderful at present, the Katsura tree by the nursery is fabulous and smells deliciously of toffee apples. The salvias, dahlias and ornamental grasses all round the garden are spectacular. Had lunch & tea here today, both were delicious. Just love this garden.

User

A lovely place to make childhood memories. Get lost in the gardens and wind your way through to the tea rooms for cake. Delightful.

Lovely day out with my mum visiting the gardens to see the snow drop sensation. It was very pretty and it was great to see a local garden get so much support as it was very busy. Beautiful lemon drizzle cake!
