Aaron Simmonds the 2017 BBC New Comedy Award finalist and wheelchair enthusiast brings his show Disabled Coconut to The Great Yorkshire Fringe. He tells you about how his first paid gig led to him performing on BBC2 a year later, and what happens when you are being trolled online for not being disabled enough. Aaron is far better at stand-up than standing up and his unique perspective on life - usually of people's belly buttons - gives him a distinctive edge in his performances as well as a sore neck.

Jamie MacDonald: Designated Driver
Foot to the floor comedy courtesy of that funny blind guy. ‘Gifted story telling’ (the list) from the comedian you don’t want to drive you home.... Chortle calls him ‘Compelling’, the BBC list him on their ‘hot talent’ list.
It’s charming, disarming, eye-opening comedy brought to you by the critically acclaimed Glaswegian.

GEORGE EGG returns to the fringe with his show Movable Feast.
More invention, more instruction, more ingredients. Brand new comedy from the stand-up who cooks. In this show he’s on the road so it’s time for Planes, Trains and Automob-meals. Try the food at... the end of the show, providing you can stop laughing.

Richard Stott, brings the Edinburgh preview of his debut show Right Hand Man Richard was born with Poland Syndrome making him lopsided with a misshapen hand. Following life changing surgery he now has toes for fingers on his left hand and in this unflinchingly honest show he examines body image, mental health and being disabled in an image-obsessed world. An hour of anarchic storytelling and acidic punchlines exploring how he has learnt to roll with the hand life dealt him and draw humour from what we are told is humourless.

They say all political careers end in tears. In Brandreth's case it's tears of laughter as the actor, author, ex-MP, One Show reporter and QI, Have I Got News For You and Countdown star is back on tour with his new show celebrating all things theatrical. Without hesitation or repetition (and just a touch of... deviation), Just a Minute regular Gyles delivers a dazzling evening of wit, wisdom, high drama, low comedy, and hilarious name-dropping.

Austentatious – The Improvised Jane Austen Novel comes to The Grand Opera House, York as part of this year's festival.
It is a truth universally acknowledged, that anyone in possession of wit and good taste must be in want of great entertainment…
... Austentatious is an entirely improvised comedy play, starring a cast of the country’s sharpest comic performers, who conjure up a ‘lost’ Jane Austen novel based on nothing more than a title suggested by the audience. Previous masterpieces include Bath to the Future, We Will Frock You, and Northanger Abba - Every show is completely different.

Went to see Jerry Sadowitz last night and I was really offended by the whole show. So all good! Really on form, fast with the jokes and in your face covering subjects from Jimmy Saville to the death of Victoria Wood and Syrian refugees, no subject was out of bounds. We went early so we could secure seats not in the front rows (as did a few others) to make sure we were not picked on and I also wore black as not to stick out. It turned out that this was not necessary as he left the audience pretty much alone which was a shame as he can be very cutting and funny, ripping someone apart, but maybe it was more to do with the York audience not having a go at him. There was a bit of a ruckus at the back as it seemed someone had to been thrown out - may be offended by the material because of a sense of humour bypass. All in all a really good show and great to see some one of this calibre at the fringe, even though he's a bit of a c#%t

We went to The Scarecrows' Wedding today and it was absolutely fantastic. My two year old nephew sat through the whole show and thoroughly enjoyed it. The adults had a good time too. It's still on for a few more days. Get tickets if you can.

User

We saw two of the Free Fringe shows for kids today. Myself and my boys, aged 6 and 8, absolutely loved it. My 8 year old especially was laughing like a drain. We're so lucky to have the opportunity to see great events like this in our city.

User

Tiddler and other terrific tales.... Absolutely brilliant!! Julia Donaldson books are one of our favourites in our house, my 3 year old loved the show. Can't wait for the next one.

User

Thank you to everyone involved in the GYF. Had a great time again. Lots of laughs, lovely food and drink plus sunshine! See you next year.

User

So happy the Great Yorkshire Fringe is back, sad it's only for 10 days this year, however, I shall be attending as many events as I can. Looks to have a great line up, been to one and got a couple of others booked in already. Love the set up, the area feels so chilled and pretty, fabulous food stalls and the staff are helpful, friendly and polite.

User

Saw Round the Horne (twice) absolutely faultless - loved it. Also saw round the world in 60 drinks comedy show - great, inventive +funny. The only comment I would make is that they would have benefitted from using personal (head type) microphones.

Roll on next year!!

User

User

On a two day break and found that the fringe was in full swing great variety of things to do and plenty of choice for all the family

User

My husband Tony and I had a fabulous time last year and are looking forward to attending again this year. We love comedy and money is tight so we choose comedy over other things, however we have decided this year to do 2 show and one is NOT comedy because we also love dancing and Lindy hop, jitterbug and such like are on offer :) The Great Yorkshire Fringe sets up for the Edinburgh Fringe. It will soon be as recognised I hope because it deserves it.

User

My four year old and I loving the Fringe again! 🎉 We've seen The Kagools, who were absolutely brilliant💋💋. I've never laughed so much and their genuine warmth was wonderful. Glad kids could see 🌈😍 then I saw Barbara Nice who I'd not heard of and booked because of her funky rainbow coloured poster!! Had a fab time with her raffle and what's the time Mr wolf game in york!😁 were back for the magic show tomorrow, the scarecrows wedding and bubble man on Sat and a couple more next week. I'd have gone to a bazillion others but no babysitter!! Fringe creche 2018 😉🌈🎵

User

My family and I thoroughly enjoyed seeing Tiddler and other tales today; fabulous performers, great songs and amazing puppets and use of props! Will be looking out for other events next year!

User

My daughter & I came to see Tiddler yesterday and we both loved it!! Fabulous retelling of 4 super stories, with great songs, fun props and very enthusiastic and fantastically engaging performers. And the kiddies craft area (we tried face-painting and bracelet-making) for before/after the show was an extra bonus. Huge thankyous Lx

User

I went to see The Scarcrow's Wedding with two of my grandchildren, what fun! I can totally recommend going, it was great.

User

I had the very great honour of appearing with the Grand Old Uke of York in the White Rose Rotunda last night. I obviously can't leave a review on ourselves but would like to say how fantastic the sell out crowd were and how pleasant everyone connected with the fringe festival have been. I doubt whether we shall ever play in a more interesting venue than the spiegeltent. Thanks to all concerned

User
