My daughter was delighted to be here for her first year at University, it was just brilliant - clean and safe, well managed and maintained. Highly recommended for all Freshers at Bath Spa - it’s easy to get the bus up to Newton Park, and living in the centre of such a beautiful city is a great opportunity. Thank you Green Park House!

It is the fantastic to see this part of Bath looking as part of the city now. Wonderful tribute to Georgian Architecture. Cant wait to see inside.

User

User

Clean rooms airy and well equipped... Will be back when next in Bath.

The things that aren't advertised on Facebook are:

- constant noise; the halcyon periods are 3-6am. That is due to the A367 road just a few meters from the building, with all the rattling trucks, buses and police cars, perfectly audible even through the shut windows, giving a tenant a full Dolby Surround (c) effect they're barging into his room. Also, Green Park across A367 with youths parting there with drinks and everything, every night; the notorious Brassiere and Bath Brew House next to the building with loud music every night; the heavy inside doors, impossible not to slam, so I hear the doors even in the neighbouring flats; drunk students outside shouting till 3am, every night.

- The ventilation, which is unique: it lets one feel connected to people: I know the exact time when my flat-mate goes to bathroom and how debilitating for her stomach all the cheap alcohol she has drunk the previous night.

- the smell of weed though ventilation (just twice, to be fair)

- The blackout on the 29 of November (my photos are provided), about 9pm till midnight, so I, as many other students, had to spend three hours in a cafe with my book due to impossible cold inside; the next evening I spent again in a cafe waiting for my laundry because the in-house laundromat was broken until the next day (and a few times after that). No compensation or apologetic emails from the accommodation.

- my flatmate’s parties in the kitchen after 11pm. The “Resident Tutor” had a meeting with my flat-mate and me. I genuinely didn’t understand why I had to spend my time on that since I didn’t do anything wrong. The Resident Tutor said it’s for the sake of peace. What? Is it Gaza here?

- Jolly students in the building who on Halloween flung things from their windows - something like a piece of dirty cloth — INTO random people OUTSIDE on the street, I had barely avoided it flying in front of my head (no, they didn’t miss, I avoided it).

- Cold inside. A month ago I saw a student, an Asian girl, fell on the floor in the lobby and keep lying; I instantly helped her to stand up and she said she was just ‘exhausted because of the cold inside’. Probably I was lost in Mandarine translation, but, having always considered myself quite resistant to chill, I caught cold myself and spent three days in bed with fever (never happened before for a year in England).

- the fortnight cleaning of the kitchen (and daily emptying of the trash bins), included into the exuberant accommodation fee, which the diligent #GreenParkHouse staff often “forgets” to do.

- a “three #penalty system”: “When you have been locked out three times within a single term, you will receive a £10 charge. If you lose your key card you will receive a new £10 charge to replace the lost card”. So, imagine you are leaving your room for a minute to make yourself a cup of tea in the communal kitchen (inside your flat), and you have occasionally left your key in your room. £10.

- Mandatory room checks. “If Bath Spa University staff identify damage, … charges will be made. We will also be inspecting communal kitchens and living spaces so… please ensure these areas are as clean as possible before staff arrive for inspection. If damage is found in communal areas within a flat/house group e.g. kitchen, bathroom etc. all residents of that flat or house will be charged equally unless an individual comes forward to claim sole responsibility.” I’ve actually read a bit about prison experience, sounds quite alike.

- Interruption of Wi-Fi: “We plan to conduct this work between the hours of 8am and 7pm on the 20th, 21st and 22nd December. During this period the Wi-Fi Service to your residents will experience periods of disruption anticipated to be between 30 minutes and 3 hours.”
