Playing around with what it looks like to spray acrylic on stainless steel and have a laser engraver etch an image in the paint.
What do ya'll think?

User

Hey everyone.
Apologies for long silence, been side tracked at work of late as I had to travel.
Waiting for some light fixings bits for meteora, but, here is the next project.
... What do you guys think I should do with this one?

Welcome to my the results of my latest tinkering, whilst despite the Steampunk themed name, is merely a toilet paper dispenser.
I have been needing one for ages now and pretty much everything out there is either rubbish or just plain boring.
... I made this out of the following.
Dimensions. 600mm Tall x 420mm wide x 160 deep. The height is industry standard for humans.
Materials. This item is a mixture of new and reclaimed materials.
The main piece of wood which serves as the centrepiece is reclaimed from a hardwood pallet which I believe is an African species of Mahogany known as Sapele, which is unbelievably solid. My logo is laser engraved on the front and the piece is waxed with natural waxes and oils so is completely friendly.
The copper piping is 22mm piping. There is approximately 2 .2meters worth of pipe in this construction. All the pieces have been brushed with scotchbrite pad for texture and lacquered to prevent oxidisation.
The fixings are compression joints made of solid brass. I selected this over the more common copper solder ring joints as it adds a good weight to the item providing necessary stability, as well as providing a better aesthetic contrast to the copper and the overall piece. This does mean that economy is sacrificed for beauty. This also means that the unit can be completely taken apart at any time one wishes without the use of torches.
The knob which serves to hold the active toilet roll in place is made from Mahogany reclaimed from the leg of an old pool table. It features 8x recesses for grip and an M8 stainless steel threaded studding which mates with a small stainless steel bar press inserted into the copper which will endure many years of use without fail and rust. The letter G for Greymane is laser engraved upon a piece of Maple and press inserted into the recess on the face of the knob inserted into recess. This too has been treated with wax.
The two upright columns are finished off with 2x caps made from reclaimed beech dowling upon which I have laser engraved G for Greymane and waxed for a finish and preservation.
Hope you all dig this.
If ya'll want one, head on over to my shop on Etsy and search for Greymane the Reclaimer.
These can be customised.

This is a photo shoot of a steampunk table I made from a bust up 19" Alloy wheel that used to belong to my BMW 320D 2008 Coupe.
The table is made from the following materials.
1. Solid Pine legs reclaimed from pallets that have not been chemically treated, stained a walnut brown.... 2. Old brass gears. 3. A wrought iron wall clock, numbers have been stressed. 4. 15mm Copper pipe and brass compression fittings. 5. Brass light fixings with LED Edison style bulbs 2.5watts 240volts. 6. 6mm toughened low iron glass with 3 Brass washers screwed to coned Delrin fixings which locate in coned/countersunk recessed in the legs. 7. Cracked 19" BMW alloy wheel, spray painted matt black.
The table stands a standard coffee table height of 18" tall and with the glass top on is 700mm in Diameter.
And thats basically it, apart from a few minor things.
I hope you all like it.

Well met everyone.
In this video I introduce a new concept in necklace I recently came up with that allows you to personalise and change your graphics as often as you want.
Check it out.

Here is my first prototype.
The diameter including the stainless steel frame is 45mm, the wood disk is 35mm. The frame is constricted or released by a little M3 screw on the side, this allows the swapping out of the wood pallet for a variety of different images to suit your day, temperament, etc... and personal artwork can be done as well.
... Any and all feed back would be great. How much would you be willing to pay for something like this, and for each individual image?

Experimenting with high contrast by filling the laser engraving with various colours, I used titanium white her. Allows images to stand out against dark woods like mahogany and ebony, making those woods viable for this kind of thing.

User

Heya everyone.
Im currently playing around with a laser engraver as I have a cool idea for bracelet and pendant frames which will allow you to swap out engraved images every day if you want, and allow for personalised artworks in your items. These are engravings are made in mahogany, but I can use anything really.
... What do you all think of the idea? Keep going?
Feedback would be awesome.

In this video I'll give the low down on what my new hobby is all about, making all kinds of cool and unusual stuff from things you would normally throw away, as well as just tinkering about with all kind of alternative ideas of making regular household conveniences.
Hope ya'll enjoy.

Well met everyone!
Look what new project the river of life brought me. Literally, I found this in the river I cycle past to work every day, someone must have dumped it, and it was no small thing to pull it out I dont mind telling you.
23" steel truck rim.... As you can see Im in the process of experimenting with layout.
Stay tuned to see what eventually happens. This is going to make a nice medium size coffee table.
