It must be raining in Scotland, Simon is learning his part!
Good luck with the show -all the best from Guildford Opera
We tried on our Henry VIII costumes before the NODA event on March 24 when we performed two short choruses - Penny Hope was a great stand-in as Anne Bolelyn - thank you Penny!
Exciting day at the NODA SE awards at the Electric Theatre - an accolade of excellence for A Masked Ball and runner-up for the best Opera in 2018.
We were there too
Something to do in the summer?
Saint Saëns’ opera Henry VIII combines beautiful melodies and powerful choruses with scenes of intimate psychological drama. The sexual allure of Anne Boleyn grips both King Henry and the Spanish Ambassador, Don Gómez de Feria. However, only one man triumphs and the climax of the opera sees Henry set aside a loyal, faithful Queen, overthrow the Papal Legate’s decision and declare himself Head of the Church in England. The fully staged period production is sung in English by award winning Guildford Opera with piano accompaniment and Holy Trinity Church providing an ideal setting for the royal Palaces and Westminster Hall. Tickets £20 adults; £10 children: call box office for specail deals.
Thank you Kevin for holding the fort and taking our rehearsal last Wednesday - hope you'll soon feel better, Lewis
Looking forward to our first rehearsal tomorrow for HenryVIII
Chorus rehearsals for our next show start on January 9th. We are always happy to see new singers who want to perform with us. Come along or email Jean Gooding, memgoc@guildfordopera.com for more details.
A few photos from the show - what a great time we had - thank you to all our soloists, orchestra, Lewis, Shephen and everyone in the chorus, and a special thanks to Puri for making all the masks.
We're very happy to welcome Guildford's mayor and mayoress, Counsellor Mike Parsons and his wife to our Saturday performance.
WIN 2 TICKETS to our show next May. We're running a competition - behind the masks, can you say who is the murderer, who is Count Riccardo and who is Oscar, his page? Send your answers - from No1-10 to press@guildfordopera.com - correct answers will be given 2 tickets for Henry VIII. For a better look, the photos will be on display at the theatre and of course, the masks will be worn at the Ball.
Thanks Angela for producing this video of our Sunday rehearsal🤣🤣
Come and see Lewis and Callie at the Electric Theatre in A Masked Ball with Guildford Opera
Tonight is show night for Lakme, my first opera with the company, and first ever opera in general. I can confidentially say I've enjoyed every single bit of it, they're such a lovely company with brilliant work. I'm really sad that this is the only one I can join them with due to moving away, but I'm hugely grateful for the experience and all they've taught me. Would highly recommend, whether it be for joining or to watch/listen.
This is a great company to perform with.. . Extremely well organised and professional. Friendly and welcoming to new comers too.
It's a very friendly society, and very very professional!
