How has your half term been if you have school age children? I've just about recovered from an amazing but tiring holiday and ready to get back into the swing of things!
Sling library is on this Wednesday morning, 10-11.30 at the Electric Theatre. You are all so welcome to drop in for help finding and fitting your ideal sling or carrier, or get help with your own.
I went shopping at The Wrap Show at the weekend and have added a gorgeous muslin ring sling from Melliapis to s...ling library stock. More photos to follow tomorrow but it could be a brilliant lightweight choice for warm weather, a holiday, a summer wedding...

Sling library sessions are free to drop in; come and browse from our extensive range and get fitting support from trained volunteers. We love to help you with your own carrier too (suggested donation of £2).

EUROPEAN BABYWEARING WEEK Day 6: The Joy of Travel
Where has a sling taken you? I’ve found babywearing can make travel so much easier, whether that’s getting the local bus or train without having to worry about collapsing the buggy or navigating stairs, or getting through the airport while juggling luggage and older children (and maybe some duty free shopping!). What wasn’t so easy however was the occasion that all three of our children fell asleep minutes before landing on ...a delayed late night flight; I managed to wrap two children in one wrap in the narrowest easyJet aisle while Daddy wore the third in his buckles, accompanied by the cabin crew carrying all our hand luggage! I don’t know how we would have physically got three sleeping children off the plane otherwise 😬
Being kept close in a sling can help little one feel safe and comfortable while you explore new places together.
Here (thanks to Heather for the photo) we have little E visiting the Eiffel Tower with her Daddy.

EUROPEAN BABYWEARING WEEK Day 3: The Joy of Sleep
Yes, to every parent, sleep is joyful indeed! One of my favourite things about slinging a little one are those sleepy snuggles where they give in and fall deeply asleep close to a loving body. Sling naps can be good quality naps too; you can be there immediately to respond to sleep cues and resettle at the end of a natural sleep cycle.
... And I have to take a moment to respond to the reporter asking Meghan and Harry if royal baby Archie is ‘a good baby - how does he sleep?’. There is nothing good or bad about a baby’s sleep patterns! It is totally normal to wake frequently throughout the night for the first months and possibly years, whether that’s for a feed, nappy change, developmental leap or simply for reassurance and cuddles. I do so wish that parents weren’t put under so much pressure to feel that their baby is only ‘good’ if they sleep!

EUROPEAN BABYWEARING WEEK
Monday 6th May: The Joy of Communication Carrying your little one in a sling can aid their speech development - when carried facing a caregiver, at their height, you are much more likely to chat away with them and interact with them more than might happen in a world facing pram for example. When close to your face, they get to experience adult conversational interaction and pick up on all these little nuances and communication skills.
... I love walking along chatting away to my children about what we can see, though I’ve had plenty of funny looks from people who haven’t immediately seen a child on my back so it seems as though I’m talking to myself!

European Babywearing Week this week!

Sling library will be on TV this evening! Tune in to That's TV Surrey from 6pm (Freeview channel 7 and 8 in Surrey) where I’ll be chatting about how slings can help parents in the Guildford and Surrey area.

The Electric Theatre have another event in the Cafe Bar soon after the library session on Wednesday so have asked that we finish promptly. With this in mind, I'll postpone the birthday celebrations until the following session on 8th May so you don't have to rush your cake!
