Rose season is here! We can’t get enough of these scented beauties. Just the smell of them makes you feel calm and they are delicious in tea. We will also be making Rose glycerite with a lot of our fragrant roses this year so watch out for that recipe coming soon. To dry out the flowers for later use we recommend removing and separating all the petals and laying them out with lots of space around them. You can lay them on a tea towel or some muslin cloth in a well ventilated ...space away from direct sunlight. If any of the petals are bruised take those out (you can make tea or Rose syrup with them) otherwise they will dry brown and not retain colour and goodness. Rose is a sedative herb and also known for lifting spirits. We enjoy it in some of our soothing and restorative tea blends but you can also add it to bath salts or make a gentle face rinse with an infusion that you’ve left to cool. We’d love to hear other ways your use and enjoy your Roses! Comment below 🤗🌹

It’s been a little while since we’ve done a herbs in the basket post so here we go... Can you guess all herbs in here? Happy Saturday all 🌞🌞
Thank you for all the guessing! The correct answers are fennel, lemon balm, rose, elderflower, lemon balm, mint (lime), stinging nettle, rosemary, sage and lavender.
The lavender is at the top and does look similar to tarragon in this picture which is why you guys guessed tarragon.

Today we are visiting Kew Gardens with our Herb Group and implementing the themes of the 5 Ways to Wellbeing that we’ve been talking about during Mental Health Awareness Week. Connect and Be Active are at the front of our minds today as we spend time exploring the amazingness of Kew. Connection is a core part of our work, and we love the things that happen when we are connecting with our Herb Group and connecting with nature. Our Herb Group is made up of people who attend our... Community Courses and we are committed to organising monthly meet ups to bring people back together. It’s always a joy to hear about everyone’s continued endeavours with herbs and new community gardening projects that our members are working on. An appreciation for nature and making connections across Hackney is what brings us together and drives our ongoing collaborations. @ Kew Gardens

T A K E N O T I C E // The 5 Ways to Wellbeing outline simple things we can do to support wellbeing: 🌱 Connect 🌱 Be Active 🌱 Take Notice... 🌱 Keep Learning 🌱 Give We’ve chosen to focus on these during Mental Health Awareness Week as we value the things that we can do each day that are affordable, simple and supportive of our wellbeing. Today we are thinking about how Taking Notice helps us to be present and connect to the world around us. Taking notice of the changing seasons and shifts in plants in our gardens and green spaces is a good reminder to slow down. At this time of year we’re really busy in the garden and often rushing around, potting on seedlings, harvesting as much as we can and maintaining different plots. It can be stressful keeping on top of everything and we can forget to appreciate how lucky we are that a lot of our work involves spending time in nature. This is why Taking Notice is an especially important reminder for us, even if it is taking 5 or 10 minutes out of our day to sit peacefully and watch the birds and critters that we share our gardens with 🌿🐛🍃🦜🌱🐝 @ London Borough of Hackney

G I V E // This week for Mental Health Awareness Week we are sharing the things we do to support our wellbeing, inspired by the 5 to Thrive (5 Ways to Wellbeing). Today we are focusing on giving, and how important it is to give to others and ourselves. Giving to others can be giving our time or support to a friend, to our community members and to each other as a team at Hackney Herbal.
Giving to ourselves can sometimes get overlooked in the busy-ness of life and it can be tri...cky to balance focusing on the needs of others around us as well as making time for self-care.
Today, we are making time to get outside in this lovely sunshine and have a lunchtime swim as a way of breaking up our normal working day. This isn’t as much of a norm as we’d like it to be but we’ve been thinking a lot lately about how some of our working practices as a small social enterprise are not as aligned with our commitment to supporting and promoting wellbeing as we would like.
We’d love to hear how giving to others and yourself supports your wellbeing, let us know below. ☀️🌿💫
