When you consider this feat of engineering and the speed of its construction is astounding. You can run your hands along stones shaped and placed 1900 years ago by forgotten people.
And the scenery is jaw-dropping.
Very pretty, bring your jacket and enjoy the lovely countryside and the amazing history of a walk still standing after so long!
Almost top marks for the wall itself, great historical ruin running on for miles. can't see all of it but you can touch it and get that sense of scope. worth checking out and the museum centre.
There's nothing wrong with the wall nor with the fort; it's just as one would expect...an historical ruin. My problem was with the entrance fee, or rather the value for money. Having paid, the only extra one gets compared to those who choose not to pay and just peer over the wall to look at the fort from the outside, is the opportunity to read some information boards: I read every word in under ten minutes. In other words, it's a rip off! This is a real shame as, if you're in the area, visiting the wall is a must.
Hadrian's Wall and the path which runs along much of its length is a fantastic National treasure. The wall is rich with social history and its surrounding landscape is a goldmine of natural history and geographical interest. Visit the wall if you are heading up North, you will not be disappointed.
I ran the hadrians wall (90 miles) from Newcastle to Bowness and it was truly amazing. The middle section (around Once Brewed) in particular if you were looking for just a small section to do. It was very challenging but the path is so well maintained. The tea rooms, restaurants, pubs and visitor centres along the path are all top draw. I would have loved to have spent more time on the path rather then rushing through it on a run....so I will be back!
Amazing historical feature! I didn't realise just how big it was. Pay for parking, redeemable at roman fort attraction. Various place to see along the road.
Interesting place to visit. Alot of the wall is missing but the bits that remain are quite remarkable
Was raining but still amazing to see a wall that goes along the landscape
