This weekend we had five great candidates on our Hill and Moorland Leader Training course based in the John Hunt Base at Hagg Farm. Plenty of opportunity to learn and put skills into practice in glorious autumn weather.
Our next Hill and Moorland Leader Training and Assessment courses are running in February 2019 and have places available.

Congratulations Gaz who gained the Level 2 Local Cave Leader Award earlier this month. Gaz can now lead trips in Derbyshire caves and mines with vertical pitches using flexible caving ladders and ropes. Nice one Gaz!

New flasks going into circulation this week. Just in time for Quarrydale Academy sixth form students who are out canoeing and caving all day!

It is used extensively by those involved in delivering the Duke of Edinburgh Award as well as walk leaders and outdoor instructors.

Our instructor Jen is currently in Corsica tackling the GR20. Its a gruelling 112 mile trek from the north of the island to the south. She sent over a picture to make all of us in the office very jealous! Good luck Jen!!

It’s great to welcome David Young to Hagg Farm as catering supervisor. Leaders who have visited over the last couple of months will already know David as he has been working for us on a temporary basis.
David has over twenty years catering experience ranging from residential centres for children, holiday resorts to function venues like Sheffield’s Cutlers Hall.
We’re really pleased that David will be joining us permanently and as you will see from the attached letter sent to us by a pupil a couple of weeks ago he’s carrying on the tradition of great catering at Hagg Farm.

Last night a couple of our instructors took full advantage of the great evening conditions for a spot of bouldering. One of the any advantages of working in such a fantastic location!

While some of Gotham Primary school were out Rock Hoping and on the climbing tower and zip line the rest of the students were treating the centre to some environmental art pieces around the site. We think you will agree some top work produced!

Lots going on at Hagg Farm recently including a fantastic visit from Kirklington and Kingsway Primary Schools, lizards basking in the sun on the door step and a private athletics group making great use of our prime location and fantastic fire pit. Bleasby Primary School arrived this morning and have a jam packed week and we also have Normanton-on-Soar School stopping in the John base from Wednesday.

Jen and Gaz are at The Mill Adventure Base today taking part in a BMC FUNdamentals of climbing workshop as part of some CPD. They are working hard in the sun honest....

A couple of photos from Hagg Farm's Mountain Leader Training course that ran over easter in the High Peak and North Wales. Great bunch of candidates all really keen to get stuck into the terrain and plenty of quality learning through the week. Challenging weather for the expedition with high winds and rain at time made for a good test of kit and techniques. Next one's in the autumn and has places available.

Despite the weather we have stayed open at Hagg Farm over the last week and are looking forward to welcoming students from Trinity Academy today.
Great work by all the staff, a local contractor and Derbyshire County Council has allowed us to keep going despite our location on the Snake Pass. Many thanks all :-)

Students from Quarrydale Academy are enjoying some alpine-conditions up here at Hagg Farm this week.

Perfect evening on Kinder Scout last night for the middle day of Hagg Farm’s Hill and Moorland Leader Training course.
Low cloud during daylight hours cleared and a sky full of stars for the walk back to the centre.
