Halfords

Tremendous experience at Halfords in Huddersfield - a roundtrip for me of 2 hours incl rush hour traffic, but very well worth it as the options on the phone lines for the Halfords stores nearer to me didn't seem to work, and then when they did I couldn't get to speak to a bike expert. I wanted to buy a tow bar-mounted bike carrier and from the Huddersfield store was given excellent advice first on the phone and later in person. I wanted to see the actual carrier and had lots of questions, all of which were answered fully. I was helped throughout by Kieran, who was extremely helpful and is clearly a problem-solver. Very highly recommended.

UPDATE: Now had the bike carrier - a Thule 9403 - fitted, and feel like it's Xmas! It was assembled in advance of my (pre-arranged) visit and then fitted quickly and efficiently by Tom, and works perfectly. Outstanding expertise in bikes evident throughout my time in the store, I would definitely trust the staff here with my Specialized MTB, and that's really saying something!

Outstanding customer service me and my friend needed work on our bikes and the bike staff was extremely helpful, good laugh

Visited the bike department, bought 2 bmx's and took them in for the 6 week check. The staff there are great. Initially served by Jonathan who was very knowledgeable had 2 issues with bottom bracket on both bmx's and will be replaced under warranty. Good experience so far.

There were only two staff in the bike shop and a lot of customers but they were friendly and helpful.

Fast at fitting tyres 9mins each, just don't clean up after.

access to bike lift very hard shop stands up close like they don't want you to use it its a lift and hump bike into position before you can even enter the lift. Bike department you always get good customer service but when i bought my mtb the staff who was on set the bike up one way then i went back a few months later for a new seat fitted and fitter who was on said its all set up wrong so put his set up on it making the bike much faster to ride so there is no staff default set up for bikes every member of staff sets bikes up to they on personal set up rather than to your own set up but don't get me wrong customer service here is always very good

On the positive side of things there is a wide range of products on offer thanks to the large store. Unfortunately, however, the unhelpful staff make it difficult to know which product you should buy! I asked one of the staff for some help and he told me to get "whatever I think is best." I work in retail myself and would never even think of dismissing my customers away like this.

Had my car MOT'ed, They failed it because the rear tyres were on the front and vica versa, good customer service would have been if they corrected this small error instead of failing it and then charging me to do a five minute job and put it right. Note: my car passed the last two MOT's with the tyres like this.

Halfords are usually great stores for parts and advice but that couldnt be further from the truth at this particular one.. The staff are ignorant and lazy.. Stood playing on mobile phone & chatted amongst themselves at the till while completely ignoring me and the then fought over which one had to serve me.. one of the worst shopping experiences ive had..

Staff are nice enough, stood at the till for a ridiculous amount of time before anyone came. No sense of urgency. If they had self checkout it would be perfect, otherwise don't go there unless you don't mind being stood round like a plum for an hour

great store and range of product but the staff don't have much sense of urgency ! don't go if your in a rush

Despite my reservations I went back… everything seemed a lot better, staff helpful and great choice of gear… so I went back again to order the bike… the guy was helpful, if a bit reluctant but friendly. So I went with it as this is where my company use for cycle to work.
So the bike has to come from another store but I'm told it will be a couple of days and will be in Huddersfield for my next day off… Great!! But no!!! I try to call the store 5 times with no answer… then eventually I'm told the bike is nowhere to be seen and I ask for a call back with an eta… this doesn't happen!!
I then go in to see someone, I see I staff member who is at best… not bothered!! He doesn't know when the bike will arrive, doesn't really care!!! So the bike will arrive at some point and they may or… may not call?!?!? But the next time I get a day off work it will probably take the entire day to speak to them on the phone.
Very very poor experience so far!!!!
Come on halfords, if you want to join the real bike shops you need to do better!!!!!
