Little Acorns - 10th September 2018 Our Little Acorns session Medieval Mayhem was one with a difference this week! We had a few new faces, which was lovely.
We started with some free play and getting to know each other, followed by a music and nursery rhyme session, which was short and sweet because we had the mobile mini zoo come and visit us, which was a treat! I have to say how impressed I am at how brave and willing the children and elderly were at handing the creatures!... (Some of the mums too!)
We had 6 mums and 8 children attend altogether, which was a good number for the space allocated. We had a craft session, decorating foam butterfly shapes with stickers and glitter glue. Everyone seemed to thoroughly enjoy themselves.
We look forward to the next Little Acorns session which is on the 24th September. 🤗

Upper Chapel Heritage Day - 8th September 2018
We had a trip out to the Upper Chapel Heritage Day with Vicky. There were 9 of us altogether including Sue, Olga, Anne, Mary and her daughter Julie, Betty and the dog Willow, Sheila and her daughter Jos and Vicky.
We started off by enjoying Hot drinks and home made cakes in the library room, Rita came and sat with us and joined in with the conversation. We sat in the main chapel and enjoyed some piano and organ music. Olga enjo...yed reading up the history of the Chapel and the people that were involved.
We Had a little tour around Channing Hall by Patrick the vicar. Susan took a shine to Patrick and was singing to him which amused us all. We've been invited to go back in the near future for some music events. 🤗

Sculpt - 4th September 2018
Lucy, from Sculpt, joined us again today for a fast and interactive session that got nearly all of us and our visitors involved! Many of us especially had fun hitting the balloons. We had a great laugh. Good to feel “young at heart”, with the exercise benefitting our emotional wellbeing as well as the physical 🎈🎈😁

Little Acorns Inter Generational Picnic 6th August 2018 😀
We had a brilliant time at the Botanic Gardens with Little Acorns toddler group and a group of NCS students. We sat on the benches at the top end of the gardens, near the green houses. We had drinks and introduced ourselves to each other and shared a picnic lunch. We had a sing along time where we sang traditional children's songs and did the actions.
The mix of ages was amazing and everyone just got on so well together it was such a lovely afternoon with us all getting to know one another and sharing experiences. The residents loved watching the children play and Some of us played ball games, which Anne particularly enjoyed as she used to be a tennis player and she certainly showed the students a serve or two!!!

Another amazing inter-generational event....
We had a fantastic outing to Medieval Mayhem, with the Little Acorns Toddler Group on 23rd July 2018.
We had 5 residents attend and really enjoy the day and we were blessed that seven of our Toddler families attended this event - The children really enjoyed playing with the soft play areas, ball pool and going down the slides. The intergenerational socialisation was wonderful to witness especially the resident getting to hold the ...most junior members of our team. All residents made very positive comments about their experience. Some of the families joined in with the clay modelling activity run by the play centre, whilst others enjoyed juts sitting and blowing/ watch the bubbles been blown by our residents and children -? Who enjoyed this the most!
Jo organised a medieval craft session with option of hat making and or shield making - which was popular. We enjoyed a tasty meal cooked to order by the Chef... we all returned clean plates! The conversation and sharing stories observed at the dinner table was so noteworthy as residents enquired of each other where they had worked previously and enjoyed watching the children at play. The special event was baby Peggy in her highchair eating with us.
A Good Day was had by all with comments of looking forward to the forthcoming inter-generational Picnic at the Botanical Gardens next month.

We need your help making Poppies – and every one counts!
As part of our activities at the HCH we would like to commemorate the centenary of the end of the First World War in November, by making a waterfall of Poppies. Some will be made with our resident family in our Gardening group and Godly sessions.
But, we will need many more, and ask you to join us!
... We are asking for your assistance whether individually or as a family to help us make as many poppies as possible (either knitted, crochet or made from felt – patterns provided)
What to do…. If you can and would like to join us then ask for resources and pattern from The Activities Team – Jo is taking lead. Once complete then please return your poppies to the office by October 15th 2018, for inclusion in our display.
After the armistice commemoration then our work will be displayed in the 2019 exhibition – (More details to follow)
Thank you in advance – Every Poppy Counts!

The body needs vitamin B-12 for many processes. People with a deficiency may have neurological symptoms and fatigue, while an excess may indicate liver disease or diabetes. Doctors can use a vitamin B-12 level test to determine how much B-12 is in the body. Find out more about the test and what the results mean here.

Obesity and loss of muscle mass, independently, increase the risk of cognitive decline in older adults. Put them together, and the risk is exacerbated.
