The results of the 2019 Maternity Survey are out – and they have revealed that women giving birth with our amazing maternity team feel they are treated with kindness, understanding, respect and dignity.
Our maternity units scored 9.4 out of 10 when women were asked if they were treated with respect and dignity during labour and birth and 8.9 when asked if they were treated with kindness and understanding by staff after they had given birth.

Apprentices are making their mark at HHFT! 😀
Apprenticeships are a really important way we can develop our clinical and non-clinical staff by helping them to learn new skills and build on their existing knowledge.
This National Apprenticeship Week we are celebrating our HHFT apprentices and their achievements. Here are just a few of our fantastic apprentices who have won WOW! awards, Apprentice of the Month awards or have been recognised for their development and outstanding... demonstration of our trust’s CARE values and contributions to their department.
If you are interested in finding out more about the apprenticeship training available, contact the HFFT apprenticeship team on 01962 825319 or apprenticeships@hhft.nhs.uk.

Make sure you watch BBC South at 1.30pm and 6.30pm to see a piece about our in-house #apprenticeship programme as part of #apprenticeshipweek!
Reporter Sophia Seth paid us a visit, talking to apprentices like Vanessa from Bartlett Ward at Winchester hospital and other members of staff about the programme.

Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has an extra reason to celebrate National Apprenticeship Week after its in-house programme was given the thumbs up by Ofsted.
The trust became a training provider in October 2018, launching an in-house apprenticeship scheme that provides opportunities for staff to acquire the skills they need to reach the next stage of their career.
Apprenticeships are offered across a variety of both clinical and non-clinical roles, allowing a wide ra...nge of staff to earn qualifications by getting hands-on experience as well as attending classes and dedicated study days.
Healthcare support worker Amanda Biggs is undertaking a Level 3 Senior Healthcare Support Worker Apprenticeship at the trust after deciding to pursue a career change. Healthcare support workers play an important role on the wards, assisting doctors, nurses and other clinicians to deliver high-quality care by taking observations and helping to wash and feed patients.
Amanda said: “I’ve always wanted to work in healthcare, but I wasn’t sure how to kick-start my career until I came across the apprenticeship scheme offered at Hampshire Hospitals. It has been the perfect way to bridge the gap and gain the skills and experience I needed.

More people are living with and beyond cancer than ever before. With research into new treatments and care from wonderful staff like our teams at HHFT, we’ll see this increase even more #WorldcancerDay

Today is World Cancer Day, and we have some really exciting news!
Cancer patient care at our Trust has been given a significant boost by a key appointment.
Philippa Aslet has taken up the role of lead cancer nurse for the trust – and she is on a mission to improve the cancer journey for patients, their families, and staff across our hospitals in Basingstoke, Winchester and Andover.
... The announcement comes on World Cancer Day, and in the year that has been recognised as the International Year of the Nurse and the Midwife by the World Health Organisation.
Philippa said: “Lead cancer nurses take a leadership role, looking at quality, safety, nursing, supportive care as well as our national cancer targets.
“A key part of my job is to oversee the experience of our patients with cancer from diagnosis to recovery, or to end of life care, trying to make every point in their journey as good as we can.
“One of the ways we are looking to develop and improve cancer services, with the help and support of Ark Cancer Centre Charity, is to provide additional supportive care and services, counselling, and complementary therapies, in our fantastic radiotherapy unit."

Meet the team Monday!
It’s National Apprenticeship Week! The theme for National Apprenticeship Week 2020 is ‘Look Beyond’, and our trust is encouraging everyone to look beyond the stereotypes surrounding apprenticeships and to celebrate the diversity of opportunity and value that they bring.
Throughout this week, we will be sharing what it is our apprenticeship team does and the impact our apprentices have at our hospitals.
... After successfully becoming a training provider in January 2018, our apprenticeship team have designed and delivered in-house apprenticeships to create training opportunities for healthcare support workers, business administrators and team leaders across our trust. This fully funded training (funded via the Apprenticeship Levy) has enabled free professional development opportunities that have been costly in previous years.
We continue to expand our offerings, adding operational management apprenticeships and GP assistant apprenticeships to our provision in the months ahead, so it is just the beginning!
To kick off our apprenticeship week, here’s the team that make it all happen!
If you are interested in finding out more about the apprenticeship training available, call 01962 825319 or email apprenticeships@hhft.nhs.uk.

Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital is particularly busy this evening, with long waiting times in the emergency department.
Think carefully about whether your illness is an emergency before you come to the emergency department – and if you are unsure, dial 111 or visit www.111.nhs.uk to help you decide which NHS service is most appropriate for your needs.
