Hanson Uk Quarry Life Award

The fourth edition includes for the first time a category for community projects that educate about biodiversity in quarries or help the quarry to better connect with its neighbours.

The Quarry Life Award is an international competition initiated by HeidelbergCement, the award promotes conservation and biodiversity in quarries.

Hanson UK invites universities, community groups and schools to submit a biodiversity projects in our quarries in the UK.

The aim of this scientific and educational contest is to raise awareness of the organic value of mining sites and share new best practices with the scientific community, NGOs, authorities and our operating units.

Enter the 4th edition of the quarry life award and have a chance to win up to £30, 000. This edition has a specific focus on scientific projects to promote mining ecology, improved biodiversity, landscape and water management.

We have also introduced a new category for community projects that encourage links with quarry neighbours and /or promotes biodiversity education /awareness. The system is open to everyone – individuals, students, schools and community groups.

The deadline for submitting your proposal is the 20th November, 2017. An independent panel of experts will then select six projects for the research phase to be carried out next year.

The UK winners will be chosen by a national jury and share a prize fund of £12, 000. They will also go forward to the international competition with a change to scoop the top price of £30, 000.
