About Happa - Horse & Pony Protection Association

HAPPA-Leading the field in Equine Welfare & Second Chance Sponsorship. A HAPPA Rescue is just the beginning. . . a Forever Home for every Equine is our goal.

Happa - Horse & Pony Protection Association Description

Founded in 1937 to help fight against the transportation of live horses to the continent for slaughter; HAPPA continues to play a major role in all aspects of equine welfare. We strive to school and place rescued animals within new homes as soon as possible and constantly promote good equine welfare through best practice & educational events.

Our fully equipped Rescue and Rehabilitation Centre ensures that all of our rescued and abandoned equines are lovingly restored back to health. Our Centre nestled in the scenic hills above Burnley, Lancashire is home to between 40 - 60 equines at any one time and is open to visitors and hosts a café and gift shop on site.

Our Centre also hosts a number of special events and children's workshops throughout the year and our indoor arena is available for hire.

We are currently updating our facilities for our equines and visitors. You can follow the progress through Facebook, Twitter and Google + or through our website.

Can you help HAPPA Frosty and HAPPA Spaniel get their new saddles so they can go to their Forever Homes? Due to their shape we are struggling to find them a saddle each that fits properly, this means that both ponies will need bespoke saddles made to ensure that their comfort under saddle is not compromised. Some people have already donated generously to help Spaniel and Frosty, but they still need your help. To donate please visit https://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/happa-frost y-and-happa-spanie…

Can you help us to find a new home for HAPPA Blossom and Bubbles? They are a mother and daughter pair, waiting to be re-homed on the Veteran Scheme. These cheeky two are full of character and bring a special shine to the Centre. The time has come for these donkeys to find their Forever Home. Together, they are looking for an experienced home with somebody who may already have a donkey. If you are interested in re-homing Blossom and Bubbles please fill in an application form online at https://www.happa.org.uk/re-homing/compan ion-equine/ If you are looking for a loveable pair of donkeys, Blossom and Bubbles could be the donkeys for you, if not then you can still help by liking and sharing this post, help spread the word!

HAPPA Frosty & Spaniel still need your help!
Over the weekend the campaign to fund HAPPA Frosty and Spaniel’s saddles went to 4%. Due to their shape we are struggling to find them a saddle each that fits, this means that both ponies will need bespoke saddles made to ensure that their comfort under saddle is not compromised. HAPPA ensures that all rideable equines are matched with their Forever Homes with a correct and fitted saddle, as our duty of care to the equine.... Can you help HAPPA Frosty and Spaniel? We need you to help us meet this target then both ponies can complete their journey and find them a Forever Home. https://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/happa-frost y-and-happa-spani…/?

HAPPA Frosty is a 12.1hh 7yr Dartmoor Grey Gelding and is now ready for rehoming! Frosty is good to do and loves being fussed with, Frosty can be a little reserved and sensitive at times so would need a more experienced home to excel and reach his full potential. He would make a great lead rein pony and is good with children, in traffic etc. to find out more information on Frosty or other horses and ponies ready for rehoming please visit: https://www.happa.org.uk/re-homing/ or call the centre on 01282 455992.

HAPPA Michael’s hooves barely had time to hit the main yard before he has been matched with a Forever Home. Here he is settling in with his new friends.

A huge thank you to our friends and customers at Pets at Home, Colne for raising this fantastic amount. The Summer Fundraising Drive raised £343.26 for the equines in our care @SupportAdoptionForPets

New horses and ponies on the Second Chance Sponsorship Scheme! We have had a bumper year so far Rescuing, Rehabilitating and Rehoming horses, ponies and donkeys in need. Even some of the Second Chance Sponsor animals, who needed extra help have gone on to their new Forever Homes. This is fantastic news for the horses and ponies who have found new homes. It also meant that there were spaces for new horses and ponies to join the Second Chance Sponsorship Scheme. We would lik...e to welcome HAPPA Pepe, Sparkle, Flynn, Yeehaa, Mikey, Truffle, Dennis and Jet to the scheme. If you are interested in giving one of our Second Chance horses or ponies extra support please visit https://www.happa.org.uk/sponsor/ Your contribution will directly support our rehabilitation and rehoming programme and ensure that the animal you have chosen to sponsor will receive the best possible opportunity of finding their Forever Home. When you decide to become a HAPPA Second Chance Sponsor you can choose your favourite horse, pony or donkey from the animals currently available. To reward you for your kindness you will then receive your welcome pack.

Our very own Development Manager Julie Rickwood-Gan recently joined Horseheard for an event they were hosting at Shores Hey Farm. The registered charity use equines to facilitate emotional health and learning in young people and adults. It was a delight to join the team and have first-hand experience in what was being achieved with clients. @burnleyfccommunity @HorseHeard

I've been wanting to visit this place for a while and got my opportunity yesterday :). My sister, cousin, 2 babies, 1 little girl and myself went for lunch - it was absolutely lovely. There's a good choice of food on the main menu, the specials menu was also very good and the 2 course lunch for £4.95 is an absolute bargain. The food was really good (especially the pastry on the corned beef/cheese & onion pies), the portions were great for lunch and not over facing. The staff and customer service is great, they were really helpful, friendly & polite - its nice to see staff that look like they enjoy their job :) The kids enjoyed themselves and could help themselves to books, chalk boards, pencils/crayons to keep them busy whilst their food came. The venue itself is very nice too - great views, lots of places to sit to relax & enjoy a coffee and plenty of tables to accommodate small or larger groups. The stable areas are well maintained and have really good information on the horses they have there, it's very child friendly and has great push chair/wheel chair accessibility. I will definitely be coming here for food again - it was a very enjoyable and easy place to be :) .x.

Had a fantastic day out last week with my family whilst on holiday. I have a Happa horse called Demi. The food in the restaurant was of excellent quality, I particularly liked the Green & Blacks chocolate brownie - it was divine! My parents had fish & chips and they said it was the best they'd had whilst on holiday, such good value too. It was lovely meeting all the horses. My little nephew enjoyed it so much he got upset when it was time to leave. I just wish I lived nearer so that I could visit more often!

User

Fantastic place and people with great hearts. <3

A lovely place for an afternoon out, the food in the cafe is excellent and the horses are very happy and well cared for. Great for all of the family.

User

A good couple of hours activity. Was nice it was a sunny day so kids enjoyed the play area as well. Cafe was lovely with beautiful views! It was good to be able to get close to the horses to stroke them, and we particularly enjoyed seeing the horses in the indoor arena. We would come back again for another visit.
