A FORTUNATE MAN: THE PHOTOGRAPHS OF JEAN MOHR HARDWICK GALLERY
Join us at Hardwick Gallery for the launch event of A Fortunate Man: The Photographs of Jean Mohr on Monday 11 March, 6pm-7.30pm. We will be joined by a panel featuring Dr Julia Peck (UoG), Paul Roberts (UoG), and Dr Chris Nancollas, a retired Forest GP and author, to discuss the work.
... Hardwick Gallery presents, for the first time in the UK, a selection of Jean Mohr's iconic photographs for the book A Fortunte Man (1967). The book was a collaboration between Mohr as photographer, and the renowned art critic, author and broadcaster John Berger as writer. The photographs were taken by Mohr when he spent several weeks following St Briavels GP Dr John Eskell as he made his rounds and held surgeries in the Forest of Dean. Twenty of the original black & white prints are on loan from the Mohr archive at the Musee de l'Elysee in Lausanne, Switzerland to the University of Gloucestershire.

Incendiary artists in conversation: Wednesday 6th February 5-6pm.
Incendiary is a multi-site exhibition involving 23 artists and the Walking the Land Artists collective responding to the firing of industrial-incinerators & combustion fallout on human & more than human ecosystems. It is exhibiting at Hardwick Campus, Cheltenham as well as SVA and Lansdown Gallery Stroud.
The role of artists, art protest and response in enviro-activism has a long history. Artists perceive, explore and respond to events in the world in different ways and often lead on envisioning futures, highlighting historical peculiarities or reflecting on current situations. The participating artists have responded to different facets associated with the inferno-incinerator theme.

Join us for the final event of Alexander Stevenson's Hardwick Gallery residency on Thursday 7 February, 5-7pm. Alexander Stevenson has been collecting narratives relating to Cheltenham’s origin myth. Seemingly unlikely connections have formed between town-founding pigeons, navigation, underground spaces and spa waters. In an experimental 4 week period, Alexander has walked the streets of the spa town feeding back what he finds to the ’embassy’ at Hardwick Gallery.
Video conversations, printed material and carved props are creating an evolving installation in the gallery following interactions with local interest groups, pigeon fanciers, archivists and re-enacters.
