The 2018 season ended last weekend at the BISHA Skater Hockey Nationals, with the Hawks finishing 5th.
The season as a whole was a mixed bag - some performances that showed how far the team have come (and continue to) and others...not as good. Even with a short bench, the team never backed down.
Whilst discussions are underway for how the 2019 season will shape up, the team go off into the Christmas Break for a well earned rest and we’ll begin to pull the team together for the New Year, and hopefully a few new faces...

The Hawks are joining up with the Chelmsford Hylanders for the 2018/19 Bipha South puck season.
With both teams having a number of ice players, it was decided that a joint venture - knows as the "Hyland Hawks" would mean that we are able to field a strong team each game weekend, and enjoy some extra hockey in the BISHA off-season.
The team will see the likes of former Hawks Lawrence Reffell and Adam Quilter join up with the team, as well as a number of Hylander's junior team... players. This will hopefully spred down into the younger age groups too.
Let's see wha tthis season brings! 🏒

New Season. New Shirts. New Signings.
Delighted that George Wagerfield and Ross Newman have joined the Hawks for the 2018 season-both having guested for the team in recent seasons.
Thanks to Hambro Roofing Limited for the continued sponsorship and Dangl Productions for the spot on shirts yet again.
... Here’s to 2018 🏒

Training for the 2018 season will be back from Wednesday 3rd January.
BISHA Skater Hockey are currently exploring the idea of having a UK national league for 2018 instead of regional leagues for Seniors , which could be what the sport needs to grow again. The format for the PeeWees will be similar to 2017 (as far as we know).
If you are interested in coming down to play, drop us a message!
... In the meantime, have a Merry Xmas and see you in 2018! 🏒🦅

Now the dust has settled after a somewhat disappointing end to the 2017 BiSHA Nationals, we’ve had time to reflect on what’s been the good, the bad and the ugly that’s occurred this year.
As with previous years, it was always our aim to play against the best teams in LESHA, and also the Nationals. The 2017 league was another of learning what we do well, and what we need to work on, which will be accounted for in the off-season. A number of games the team played short benche...d due to personal commitments outside of the sport, but still stuck together. Its been noted before that whatever we do, whatever the result, we never “break the bench”, Overall, to come 4th in a league where the 3 teams above you were also 1st, 2nd and 3rd at the Nationals too doesn’t seem too bad upon reflection.
The Nationals was also a bit of a mixed bag; unconvincing performances against eventual winners London Street Warriors and Cardiff Panthers, then probably the best all-around team performance against the Hallamshire Hornets, only falling to a 3-2 loss in a 4-on-2 short-handed goal in the last 30 seconds. A convincing win vs Crusader Kings set up a playoff for 7th/8th vs Sprint Raiders. Despite going 2-0, and being disallowed a goal with 15 seconds left in the game to take it to OT, it wasn’t meant to be this year and Hawks placed 8th in the country.
Next up is the annual team Xmas/End of Season Meal, where some of Neil Smith’s legendary stories will ensure we all get a good sleep afterwards.
The team are determined to go again in 2018, possibly in a national league (let’s see), and hopefully with the same squad that bit more experienced, and you never know, some new/returning faces also….
Finally, some thank you’s:
1. To Hambro Roofing Limited for their continued support for the club. Their kind generosity each year is valuable to how we run, and helped out hugely with the new Pee-Wee team this year. 2. To Hornchurch Sports Centre for letting us train with you every week 3. To Hawks coach Tony Knock, who - despite constant nagging from team members in recent weeks - has decided to step down after 3 years leading the team. Knocky has been a pivotal part in how the team has progressed each year since Hawks returned to the league. We hope that this is just a little “time out” and he will be back soon, however if not, we’re sure that there are other options out there in the sport, because it would be a great loss otherwise. Thanks Coach!
See you all in 2018.

Expecting this to be my last BISHA British Nationals Finals and looking forward to a weekend away with the team.
A team who treat league matches as training sessions, correct all their flaws and serve up some of their best performances for the British Nationals. It’s going to be a tough task of our annual target of improving on the finish of the year before, but I always have faith in this lot! A video reminder of our 2016…
