Good morning and a happy Monday to you.
When you come downstairs in the morning, is your dog excited? If so, how excited?
Just have this thought, if you interact with your dog for being excited, your dog may think that is how they should behave when they meet anyone else.
... If you want a well behaved dog when meeting other people, you can set that standard by your own behaviour and interaction.
It's is all shaped by you.
Have a great day!

Good morning, thought for the day.
You have a well behaved dog, that is a combination of you and your dog.
If you don't have a well behaved dog, that is a combination of you and your dog.
... If you have a well behaved dog because of that combination, nothing needs to change because the balance is good.
If you don't have a well behaved dog, then something needs to change because the balance is off.
To restore balance who needs to change?
Answers please.

Good morning, I hope you are looking forward to Friday and the weekend. I am hoping for some drier weather so we can get together for two group dog behaviour walks which are taking place tomorrow.
We are meeting at the Plough Inn, Burroughs Rd, Ratby LE6 0XZ and the walks start at 09.30 and 10.45, they last about an hour and cost £15.00 for one dog and £20.00 for two or more.
Tomorrows walks cover a variety of terrain, there is street walking, there is woodland walking, there... will be some dogs off lead if the dogs in the group are ready to cope with other dogs off lead.
There will be challenges, particularly when we have dogs walking head on towards other dogs, this is a particular area where dogs can struggle to cope so it is an area we work on.
The recall is the biggest work on as that is the most important part of control, being able to get your dog back to you regardless of distraction or stimulation.
All you have to do to join our walks is comment on this post, say which walk you are coming to, you are welcome to do both if you are up for a challenge.
If you are coming for the first time, please let me know what dog you have, what you would like to work on as this will help me plan the walk accordingly.
I look forward to seeing you and your dog tomorrow and you will benefit from learning more about your dog and their behaviour.

I'm still on the communication bandwagon to encourage you to contact me when things are proving challenging. I have two very different examples from this morning alone that I can share with you, both involving Facebook.
Through this very page I received a message from a client stating how bad their dog has been since our first meeting and how they can't take any more and are going to re home the dog.
Now I hope this is a cry for help. I responded by asking them why they had n...ot contacted me sooner because there are always things I can do, things I can tweak. Usually I remind people what we did on the last visit, how we did it and why it worked.
These are usually the things that slip and if they are allowed to slip too far things will revert. If there is not enough reason being given for the dog to change, the dog might well resist.
These things van all be helped by regular communication and Facebook is easy and free, texting is easy and inexpensive, email is free and there is one more which I will cover in the next section of this post.
Ok, part two which is a great example of a client reaching out for help. I have a client in Wales who has three dogs and a new puppy and things got off to a good start but now things are becoming more challenging.
So my client sent me a message through Facebook asking me to call so I can advise on the situation. I did better than that, I video called them through Facebook. Completely free of charge, we had a thirty minute conversation which reset the expectations, went through the reasons there is a problem and lots of advice on how to rectify the situation.
Just because they asked me to call them. If you ring me, I might not be in a position to answer straight away. If you do ring and leave a voicemail, I will ring you back. If you message me asking for a call, I will call you back.
If you do nothing then there is nothing I can do. I would rather take the time to talk through things with you than not hear from you when you need help.
Following my conversation with my client in Wales, they sent me this message:
"Thanks for the chat Steve, made me feel a lot better and I know we can do this. That puppy book you wrote, is it still available to download? Where do I get it from?"
From a position of despair and contemplating re homing one of the dogs to feeling much more positive because the support is there.
You know what to do and I look forward to hearing from you whenever you need help.

Good morning to you! Interesting reading this morning, I have looked into the details of the 2,368 people who have liked this page and it won't be a surprise to you to know 84% are women. Its no surprise to you because you have liked the page. 16% are men.
So I have a question for all the women who have liked this page:
What is the most difficult part of teaching your dog to behave in your home? Do you get the support you need from the people with whom you live?
... I ask this and I phrase this in this way based on the 26 years I have been doing this and what I have seen so I have an idea of what your answer might be but I am looking for a little more factual based feedback as it will help me when talking to families in the future to try and help the whole family realise they all have a big part to play.
So this also means I have a question for the 16% of men who have liked the page and it is the same question I asked of the women:
What is the most difficult part of teaching your dog to behave in your home? Do you get the support you need from the people with whom you live?
I do hope you are going to respond, it would be amazing if all of you responded! I imagine the responses will be very varied but will help with my delivery of help going forward and it will help me involve the whole family in a more engaged way.
I very much appreciate that you have liked my page and I hope you find value in the content.
I do have a favour to ask though. I imagine some of you have been with me for a long time and some of you only recently. Would you leave a comment on this post please just saying why you like my page and what you get out of it and where you are please?
Lastly, thank you for being part of what I do, I really appreciate you being here.

This warms my soul, the young Royals meeting dogs who help people with mental health issues and by doing so keep the biggest health issue of the modern age in the public eye https://home.bt.com/…/william-and-kate- meet-prince-harry-th…

Some great questions coming in from clients from whom I haven't heard from on a couple of years who now, following my earlier post feel comfortable getting back in touch for reminders and further advice. Love it, come on, you know you could do with a reminder and an update. It would be great to hear from you!

Good morning, the weather forecast for tomorrow is still wet but I am still going our for a dog behaviour walk. I can only add the word group to that if anyone would like to join me at midday, that's 12 noon and I will be having a walk around Sence Valley, 14 Ravenstone Rd, Ibstock LE67 6NW and I will be parking in the bottom car park.
We will encounter other dogs and a variety of wildlife during our hour there so your skills we be tested and if you are joining us for the first time, you will be learning the skills needed to have a calm and well behaved dog.
My walks are open to everyone, just let me know you are coming by commenting on this post so I know with whom I am working as this helps me plan the session.

Ok, I would like to discuss this with you. I just had this in from a client asking to reschedule an imminent appointment:
"Myself and my husband had a chat last night and said we have both changed our behaviour towards our dog in small ways which has definitely had an impact on his behaviour so we are going back to when you first visited. We know what we need to stop doing it's just hard to stick to it but this last week we have realised the impact it has on our dog and we w...

Good morning, as the weather continues to top up the reservoirs and the water table, and it seems in a hurry to do so, spare a thought for those who will spend the next days clearing up the trees, branches and general rubbish this amount of wind and rain will create.
I know this weather isn't nice but there are people out there clearing up to make sure we stay as safe as possible which is a good feeling.
Of course you are able to help when you take your dog for a walk, just m...ake sure they collect every small branch and twig and bring it to you so you can make sure it is put out of the way, having had a good time as well.
My dogs love being out in this sort of weather, the wind really generates a sense of fun in them and they don't mind the rain.
Whatever you are doing today, have fun, stay safe especially when walking your dog.

Whilst we remember the incredible events 75 years ago at the D Day landings, may we also spare a thought and a space in our hearts for the war dogs, this article in the Telegraph makes for an amazing read https://www.telegraph.co.uk/…/Dogs-of-w ar-the-unsung-heroes…
