About Haworth Church

Haworth Parish Church (St Michael & All Angels with St Gabriel's, Stanbury) is the Anglican Church in the world famous village situated in West Yorkshire.

Haworth Church Description

We are the Church of England Parish Church for Haworth and Stanbury in West Yorkshire. The building was erected in the Perpendicular style between 1879 and 1881 by Rev John Wade. It replaced the building where Rev. Patrick Bronte preached from 1820 until 1861 and it contains the Bronte family tomb where two of the three famous sister authoresses are interred. Charlotte and Emily are with the rest of the family in the tomb while Anne is buried in Scarborough, North Yorkshire.

We are currently engaged in a five-year restoration programme. In 2012 we completed a £237, 000 repair of the south-facing roofs and tower while currently we are engaged in the early stages of repairing the north-facing roofs. It is anticipated that the Church will be closed in Spring 2015 while the work on the north-facing roofs is completed. Part of the north-facing roof programme will also see us introducing improved toilet and catering facilities.

Our partner church St Gabriel's in Stanbury is a Bronte inspired building and it too is engaged in a roof repair programme.
