Meet our latest Haydon Wick Heroes
Councillor Manro Vice Chairman of the Parish Council presented Charlie and Callum students at Nova Hreod School with a Community Service Award for their hard work earlier this year when they cleared rubbish around Basil Close play park in Haydon Wick.
The Parish Council was alerted to some car tyres, metal objects, and general waste which had been piled up by a bin at Basil Close Play Park Haydon Wick. At first we wondered if this was fly ti...pping, but it soon became apparent from Facebook comments that two young lads had spent one Saturday morning clearing this rubbish from the hedgerows around the play park.
As their identity was unknown it took some time to locate Charlie and Callum, but with the help of Facebook our Officers were able to make contact and arranged with Nova Hreod School to present them each with a Community Service Award for their fantastic efforts in keeping their local area clean and tidy.
During the presentation Charlie recalled how hard it was hard pushing the tyres up the slope to get it to the bin, and how there was a hedge which was hard to get into, but Callum got through to pick up the rubbish and his jacket got stuck on the branches.
Councillor Vinay Manro praised them both for their efforts, and thanked them for thinking about their local play park, the public and local wildlife.

Fly tipping….is truly the bane of everyone’s life!
The Parish Council received reports of this load of fly tipping today. It was dumped near the bridge on Purton Road.
By law, individuals have a duty of care to take reasonable measures to ensure that waste produced on their property is passed on to an authorised person who will dispose of the waste responsibly. According to the duty of care, if the waste can be traced back to its source and the individual hasn't taken reasona...ble measures then they may be liable for a fine of up to £5,000. The maximum penalty on conviction for a fly tipping offence is £50,000 and the possibility of a one year prison sentence.
We receive so many similar reports like this one and we do try to tackle them in a timely manner however each incident costs us time and money to deal with and these resources could be used elsewhere.
We all know that fly tipping is a nationwide problem and Councils up and down the country need help from the public to catch more people in the act. Anyone who witnesses a fly tipping incident, especially if they can provide a vehicle registration (but only if it safe to do so), is urged report it to both Haydon Wick (who remove the item except builders waste) at tidyup@haydonwick.gov.uk. AND to Swindon Borough Council who will investigate the enforcement side of things by using their online form - https://www.swindon.gov.uk/…/report_fly -tipping_or_dumped_r…

Do you know what your kids are up to? We are experiencing a lot of vandalism at Bowls Green and King George 5th Play Park. Having just recently replaced these swings at a cost of £192 (for four swings & chains sets) to the local community we were gutted to see that the local kids are continuing to destroy the swings for the younger children.
If you notice vandalism please report it to 101 and the Parish Office so that we can flag with our local PCSOs to keep a closer eye on this area of the parish.

Our Tidy Up team came across this pile of discarded bottles on their rounds today. Could residents please be mindful that we are not responsible for clearing these items - they should be disposed of using the recycling methods as they pose a potential danger to users of the area
