Went here for my best friend wedding. Couldn't fault the day, the hotel was dressed excellently an the staff were brilliant. I would say the prices on the drinks were too high, the food was however very good. Would definitely go again.

I attended a function on 6th October. I can honestly say that the hot pot was the best I have ever eaten and the staff were fantastic. Well done to the headway

One of the BEST hotels I've ever stopped in! The staff are AMAZING! And the facilities where perfect. I loved that it was pet friendly and our little nervous rescue dog was more than chilled out and he enjoyed all the attention on his first ever holiday. I'm sure we will keep you in mind if we are that way again.

Reasonably priced drinks. Fairly good function room. Not the greatest spread in all fairness but the staff are very helpful. We used it for a wake and everybody was happy. Plenty of parking and just a short wash to the main town area.

The headway was booked for a funeral, for a family member who was married there two years ago. The event was well catered and the staff were excellent, just as they were at the wedding. Very respectful.

In all my years of staying in mediocre hotels in terrible northern towns, I have to say that the Headway Hotel has to be one of the blandest bottom of the drawer venues it’s possible to book. From its awkwardly slow bar service and terribly limited range of drinks to its downtrodden battered and dated décor, everything about this hotel just screams of tired.

I have to admit that I had a vested interest in staying at this hotel this year, as 16 years earlier at the tender age of 17 I’d suffered at this hotel which hosted my 6th form leavers do, where I was publicly humiliated by ex-head of English, Mr Bowsted when he hilariously recounted to everyone in attendance about how he aggressively and indecently shouted at me after accidently walking into one of his English lessons when I’d left my rucksack because it was my form room, and, and the head of IT, Mr Pickles, (for being a ‘nice lad, but totally unemployable’). Additionally, I was dumped by my ex-girlfriend on this night as well. If it hadn’t been for the hotel serving underage customers copious amounts of booze, it might well have been the worst night of my life.

Anyway, my idea of staying at the Headway was to perhaps give the place a chance to redeem itself. I cheerfully assumed that in the decade and a half of intervening time between our last encounter, the Headway Hotel management would have taken the decision to update its function room, its rooms and its bar. I was wrong; I was very wrong.

As a young, newly married man, I wanted to give my wife, who’s not from the UK, a taste of sophistication that my town might be able to offer. In hindsight, she said it was one of the worst experiences she’s ever had in a hotel, anywhere in the world. It even dealt a hefty blow to my marriage, and to my wife’s view of the country.

As soon as I walked in, it was as if I’d walked into a time capsule from the 1970s. Nothing had been updated, nothing at all! What seemed like a solipsistic, yet perhaps cathartic experience for my once damaged youthful mind turned into yet again another traumatic nightmarish experience. Pube covered sheets, faeces covered toilet pans, a dirty stained mattress, a laboured and boring and tasteless food menu all conspired to make me never want to visit this miserable pimple of a town ever again. All this from a guy who grew up in Morecambe from the age of 2! A guy who should have pride in his town, but this hotel was the nail in the coffin of any slight hope that I might have for a town in which I spent my formative years.

I would urge the Headway to close its doors. Just give up. Nothing can redeem this sorry, sad sack pathetic one horse town excuse for a hotel. What was once a proud town is now a joke of the nation, and its hotels like these that really put paid to a reputation that was losing its grip 40 years ago.

Polite staff, good food, rooms are okay, as a coach driver we're not given the best of rooms so could not give a accurate rating. There's parking outside the hotel,it's a bit of a walk to town but there's a but stop 100 yds.

We were there as part of a coach Tour and were made very welcome when we arrived. A big thank you to all the staff nothing was to much trouble for them Loved every minute of our holiday
