Located in South Manchester on the boundaries of Heald Green and Gatley in Stockport, Heald Green Theatre is an amateur company that has something for everyone. If you are in search of a good value night out then we offer a full programme of plays throughout the season. Or, if participation is more your thing then we welcome membership from people of all ages and experiences wishing to get involved in acting, directing, backstage work and front of house activities to name but a few.

We operate three youth groups, The Academy, Next Generation and The Young Actors Company, which cater for young people between the ages of 8 to 25 years and offer them the chance to gain experience of stage craft within a working theatre from experienced performers and staging /technical crew whilst also making new friends and developing new skills.

A full cast photo from last nights final dress rehearsal.
No spoilers from us but it's worth mentioning that the audience just might want to prepare them themselves to witness tears, betrayal, anger, lust, deceit, inappropriate humour and much more in our roller coaster black comedy play.
The cast (from the left), Chris Hall, playing Landlady Mabel, Brigid Hemingway playing Baz, David Olof Carney playing ex docker Bunny, Emma Kathryn‎ playing regeneration consultant Melissa, ...Laura Pearson, playing drug addict Angie, Adam Green playing drug dealer Woody with deluded aspirations to become a stand up comic !!
Opening night tonight - break a leg everyone !!
Quiz Question No. 1 - for a free ticket to 'Hull's got talent' , where the heck did the phrase 'break a leg' originate from ?

It's not often that an amateur production receives a good luck message from an acclaimed playwright !
Richard Bean was virtually unknown when 'Pub Quiz is Life' was first premiered in 1999. Two years later, he became famous thanks to his hit show 'One Man, Two Guvnors' at the National Theatre. In his own words ;
"It's a privilege for me to have the Heald Green Theatre Company performing my play Pub Quiz is Life. I'd like to wish the cast and crew the very best for reheasa...ls and the run, and I hope that they can find a way to play the truth of it, and not worry about getting laughs, and present these characters, broken and busted though they may be, in a sympathetic and postive light. Break a leg,"
It's going to be a packed house but there are still some tickets available if you want to see it. https://www.ticketsource.co.uk/hgtctheatr e

the best nights entertainment in a long time - cried laughing

User

We went to watch Snow White last night and had such a wonderful time. A lovely little setting and wow the cast were all so entertaining! I have not laughed so much for a while and was crying with laughter! We took our children and both enjoyed the show greatly too! We without a doubt will be making a visit to the theatre annually! Thanks so much for a great evening! And well done to all the cast!

User

Thoroughly enjoyed tonight's performance of Pub Quiz is Life. Excellent characterisations, we were all waiting to see what Mabel would be wearing next. Highly recommended.

User

The whole cast were brilliant. Funny lines, traditional slapstick. It had everything and all the hard work was worthwhile.

User

Saw April in Paris on Tuesday evening. Fantastic performance by 2 very talented actors and brilliantly directed by David Olaf Carney. It's on until Saturday so don't miss out on your last opportunity to see it.

User

My friend and I saw The Beauty Queen of Leenane on Saturday and thoroughly enjoyed it. The show was completely mesmerising and the two lead characters Mary Ellis and Frank Dykes had fantastic stage presence and chemistry together. I thought they both managed to bring humour to a dark play by their excellent comedy timing with the dialogue. The decision to intersperse scenes with Irish advertisements from the 90s was genius. As I myself grew up in Ireland this really helped to set the scene and gave the piece an almost claustrophobic feel as everything feels contained wihin the small spaces between the ads. The two leads really carried off the accent too which is something which can be quite difficult and the pace of the dialogue alongside the dark deadpan wit really encapsulates the Irish sense of humour. This was the first play I have seen by the Heald

Green Theatre Company but I'm looking forward to next season I won't want to miss a single show.

User

BRILLIANT pantomime as always....thanks to everyone (cast and all of the hard working behind the scenes members!) for such an enjoyable evening!

User

As a member, the theatre has offered me some fantastic opportunities to perform in some really interesting plays. It's been such a great way to indulge my passion for theatre and acting that I've been a member for nearly 18 years (starting off in the youth theatre when I was at school). I've made some great friends along the way too.

User

Anyone off to the panto today or tomorrow - you are in for a treat!! Fantastic performance last night - well done to all those involved on and off stage - can't wait to see it again tomorrow!! Xx
