I'm especially excited about running this workshop. Having recently moved to Lancaster I'm told that it's a great place to meet other herb nerds and so far I've not been disappointed. I've done so much foraging and met so many amazing people already. I feel like this is an opportunity to learn as much as I can share and I honestly can't wait.

Did you know that sluggish liver function can inhibit fat break down? You also don't need to drink a lot of alcohol to put a burden on your liver. Medications and IBS can have a huge impact on your liver as well as drinking alcohol or eating fatty foods.

Anxiety is having a huge impact on our society as a whole and I'm discussing it with clients more and more. One of the nutrients I recommend is L-Theanine. It works quickly to calm and still the mind, allowing you to focus.
The best anti anxiety strategy is to find out why you cannot find your calm. Are you constantly checking your notifications and filling your mind with stimuli? Is your phone distracting you and often tearing you away from you you are doing?
It's important to train your mind to be still if you want to find more calm in your day. Don't let a busy and agitated brain get the better of you. Put away distractions and spend some time each day focusing on your surroundings. Take L-theanine if it helps, but long term, it is possible to train your brain to stillness.

Today's story is about a lady suffering with a red, itchy rash that she'd had diagnosed as eczema. She wasn't convinced of this diagnosis and knowing what I know about eczema, I had to agree that it looked unusual. Her rash was a series of tiny red spots that spread across her torso. It was most concentrated around her armpits and beneath her breasts and it those areas, boy did it look angry!
Luckily, with herbal medicine, we treat most skin problems based on what they look ...like, not based on the label (of which there are often many!) they've been given. With hot, red, itchy rashes, my go to formula is Calendula with Echinacea. Echinacea is traditionally a skin herb and calendula helps with that hot inflammation. You can buy calendula complex off the shelf so it was cheap and easy to recommend. In the first couple of weeks, she felt that the rash was gradually getting better but was still irritating, especially since progress was slow.
Feeling impatient, I offered to blend her some herbs from my own dispensary, using huge doses of calendula and some other supportive herbs like chinese skullcap, my standard herb for eczema type conditons. After a month, the itch had gone and there was barely any rash left to see.
Skin problems are really satisfying to treat because results can be so quick and are clearly visible. This lady had been suffering for over a year and in just a couple of months, we made a marked difference in her skin health. So much so that she no longer uses the herbs or her doctors creams!
