About Healthy Tameside

Healthy Tameside is part of Tameside Council’s drive to improve public health. Our aim is to give people the tools they need to manage their own wellbeing.

Healthy Tameside Description

WHO ARE WE?
We are Healthy Tameside and we’re here to support the people of Tameside to live longer, happier, healthier lives.

WHAT DO WE DO?
It’s now well known that our lifestyles can have a big impact on our health. Smoking, alcohol, our food choices and activity levels are just some of things that can have an adverse effect. But knowing this and knowing what to do to make changes in your life are two different things – and that’s where we come in.

The resources, activities and inspirational stories we share are there to help you find new ways to manage your lifestyle choices and find ways to make small changes that can make all the difference to your health and wellbeing.
This is an open, online forum where we want everyone to encourage each other, share their tips and motivations.

Smoking still causes over 54,000 new cancers in the UK every year. But illegal tobacco at pocket money prices is still helping to get young people addicted to smoking. A quarter of young people who smoke in Greater Manchester say they buy illegal cigarettes. If you know where it's sold, you can report it anonymously at keep-it-out.co.uk

The NHS wants to encourage and support a more meaningful conversation between people who provide health and social care, and the people, families and carers who receive that care. You can comment on postcards which are available in a number of locations including GP surgeries, libraries and children’s centres for people to complete and return pre-paid. And you’re invited to comment online about what matters to you. There’s also a video in British Sign Language (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gv5pbFBC GjU). www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/wmty2019

If you run out of medication over the May bank holiday (6 May) some pharmacies in the area will be open.
Your local pharmacy is the place to go to get any prescription medicines and clinical advice for minor health concerns. They can also help with common illnesses – like sore throats, coughs, colds, tummy troubles and aches and pains – and provide advice on over-the-counter medicines.
If you want any more info on accessing medical services on the bank holiday head over to https://www.tamesideandglossopccg.org/new s/bankholiday.

In Tameside 1 in 4 of our children live in poverty. Many households are experiencing financial crises and lack access to basic essentials including food.
We’d like to hear what you think about food in Tameside – about your experiences and what matters to you. So please help us by taking our survey.
Your views will help the Tameside Food Partnership develop a healthy and sustainable food strategy for Tameside, so we can help more people get affordable healthy food, address foo...d poverty and reduce the environmental impacts related to the food we eat such as packaging and food waste and greenhouse gas emissions.
The survey closes at midnight on Monday 29th April.

If you run out of medication, especially prescription medication, over the extended Easter bank holiday (19-21 April) some pharmacies in Tameside and Glossop will be open.
Your local pharmacy is the place to go to get any prescription medicines and clinical advice for minor health concerns. As well as helping with common illnesses – like sore throats, coughs, colds, tummy troubles and aches and pains – and provide advice on over-the-counter medicines.
Most local pharmacies h...ave consultation rooms for private conversations. Your pharmacist can also talk to you confidentially without anything being noted in your medical records, which some people may prefer. Getting advice from a local pharmacist is the best first step for a minor health concern. Patients are advised to telephone their usual pharmacy before travelling as opening hours may vary during the bank holiday weekend.
For further information on pharmacy opening times and how to access primary healthcare services over the bank holiday visit https://www.tamesideandglossopccg.org/new s/bankholiday.

We’re thinking about the companionship we get from our animal friends as it’s #NationalPetDay and they really help your wellbeing. Taking the dog for daily walks can boost your mental health by getting you out and about meeting new people. Check out this Mind article telling the story of how Will’s dog helped his anxiety: https://www.mind.org.uk/…/hounds-of-lov e-how-dogs-helped-m…/
