Wednesday 5th September. Very few anglers fishing Hebron over the last 2 weeks. A father and son team had a great bag of fish in the pouring rain on Tuesday. They were fishing off the dam wall and getting good roach fishing deep. I have noticed that most anglers choose the first peg ... I can understand this as its easy to get to. However , this is attracting a lot of small fish that wait for maggots and fresh groundbait every day! Please try some of the other pegs, you may get fewer bites ,but I am sure there are bigger fish here. Make sure you try to feed them in with groundbait or hemp and see what happens. Weekends have been very quiet , particularly Sundays ,with only 1 or 2 rods fishing. Tight lines. Nick

Monday August 27th. It has been hard fishing here over the last week. There is a comment in the book that 'someone' managed to blank. I have a 6 year old daughter who managed to catch 3 perch in 15 minutes........either the person concerned is fishing for a whale that doesn't exist or is using 'carp gear' that is oversized and useless . This is not a carp fishery. I know there are a lot of small nuisance fish around and it is hard to get through them but I know larger roach and skimmers are in the swims. Get your swim going with groundbait and be quick on the strike to get the better fish. Sorry to be a bit sarcastic but a negative comment has to have a response. Please could anglers report any decent catches in the visitor book. Nick

Thursday 9th August. This is a photo of the quality of fish in the lake. There have been some nice mixed bags taken over the last 10 days including roach , crucians ,odd skimmers and some lovely roach. There a lot of smaller fish which keep the float dropping but the art is to get through these and you will be rewarded.

The first roadside peg must be the most heavily fished piece of water in the North East! I know that all pegs are fishing quite well . The woodside pegs have some nice skimmers and the more weeded pegs on the other side hold crucians and tench. Also , I know one of our regulars took a good bag from the dam wall. Try walking a bit further ! It might pay dividends🐟

Some nice roach and crucians being caught today. I am repairing 2 of the pegs on wednesday ,so there may be a bit of noise but there will be pegs available on the opposite side of the lake. Nick

July 27th.. Lake fishing well. I have had a lot of people asking for directions to the lake. If you click on 'our story' the directions, prices etc. are there. tight lines.

Wednesday 25th July. Again ,lightly fished last week but fishing quite well. A couple of decent bags taken at the weekend.Ian McCormack from Sonik Tackle showing his skill with a short whip off the woodside pegs and a typical mixed bag from Hebron including some nice skimmers. Andrew Sowerby from Pure Fishing also took a decent bag on pole...so plenty of 'tackle talk' on Saturday! Also , one of regulars has had some good sized roach on corn. It seems that fish are moving around a lot so a steady amount of groundbait might work to keep them in the swim. Remember to keep to fine hooklenghts and small 18 to 22 hooks Tight lines.

Sunday 15th July. Very few fishing this week. Those who did , caught plenty of fish even in hot conditions. It is forecast a bit cooler this week and any overcast conditions should see some good bags. despite warm weather , fish are feeding actively and skimmers are turning up as well as some bigger roach. Again, very light tackle and being able to strike at any slight movement of the float can produce better fish. Maybe try some different baits, expander pellets, hemp, wheat or sweetcorn.

Monday July2nd. The fish are holding up well in the heat and we have seen no signs of stress to them. Hebron is a large volume of water so I am pleased that this is keeping oxygen levels and temperature steady, also, the colour is still good. This bodes well for the future as I was unsure as to how the lake would react to a drought. So, the fishing has been tricky. A lot of small fish have kept the float dipping but , as Jamie Parsons and his son proved today, working the swim... together on pole, really quite heavy bags of fish can still be taken on maggot. Watch for 'lift bites' as these are quite often the bigger roach and rudd. It isn't easy, and you have to work hard for a bigger stamp of fish. But, to me, that is the challenge, and where the pole and short whip come into their own. I could fill the lake with hybrid carp or ide...but that's too easy.A nice crucian, a 10 inch roach or skimmer are the specimens here....fully finned and a real challenge. Most of the fish are second and third generation and practically 'wild' fish. I intend to hold a couple of evening matches midweek. I will post details on here.I am thinking , a 3hr slot starting 6pm to 9pm.These will be 'open' matches with a 15 peg limit . It could be interesting as some of the 'pleasure anglers' might well compete....tight lines Nick

Thursday 21st June. The lake has been lightly fished this week but those who managed to work out the right baits and tactics caught fish. Expander pellets have worked, getting through the small fish and into larger roach and crucians. I have raked the weed from a few a of the pegs and the lake is looking good....still a challenge but that's fishing. Nick

June 12th. Fishing has been a bit harder this week. For some reason the bigger fish are coming into the swims but proving difficult to hook. They are definitely there and Steve Hoggins proved it by taking this fin perfect roach ,one of many that Hebron holds. This is a specimen for the lake ..well done Steve.

Friday 8th June. Not many anglers out this week, but plenty of fish showing in catches. After a bit of rain last week the lake has a nice bit of colour and all species have featured in bags including crucians, skimmers and tench. It is from now on that pellet and corn baits can come into their own and feeder rigs will produce some bigger fish. Tight lines . Nick

24th May. Lake has been lightly fished this week. Some exceptional bags have been taken with weights up to 20lb.These include some larger roach and hybrids, odd chub, crucians , skimmers and small tench. fishing close to the bank some swims have been 'boiling' with larger fish, probably large roach, that have been difficult to catch. Certainly a 'larger stamp' of fish are now appearing at Hebron. Try varying your baits with small pellet, chopped worm and mixed sweetcorn to tempt the larger fish. All pegs are fishing but the woodside pegs including the new peg are fishing very well at short range. Just to let you know that Mondays and fridays seem to be the quietest days , although there is always plenty of room.Nick

Saturday 19th May. Lots of mixed bags of fish this week including some nice chub, skimmers and small crucians.Fish are very active and starting to come to pellet baits. This helps get through the smaller fish but you will get less bites. We launched 2 of 5 floating islands this week.and they are a good feature to fish to. for any new followers ,there is an honesty box £6 for a day,£4 Juniors. So just come along, get your ticket and start fishing . There are plenty of pegs. The lake is a lovely place to fish at this time of year.Nick

I had to post this photo of a 4lb bream caught by Brett, one of our regulars. As far as I know its the biggest caught yet. This is quite an achievement as it is not a stocked fish . It was taken from the new peg.I think there may be more to come!

Sunday 6th May. The lake is starting to pick up and all anglers have caught fish. This is a typical mixed bag. There is a lack of larger skimmers and roach. But I am sure they are there. It has been very bright and a lot of fish topping early and late. There is a lot of natural feed now and all pegs are fishing.Maggot still the best bait but pellet is worth a go. The lake is still not busy and plenty of room. Nick

First time fishing Hebron today. Me and my lad loved it. It's a great little spot. Great for bags of Silver fish.

A tranquil, picturesque lake with a more natural feel than your typical commercial water. There is a good balance of species with the better fish providing a good challenge. The lake is well stocked so you shouldn't blank providing you fish reasonably light tackle. Full marks to Nick for providing something different to your typical commercial with too much emphasis on carp.
