Did you know that cranberries are thought to be the highest containing antioxidant fruit? Antioxidants help the body to fight free radical damage in the body which can be at the root core of many health issues and diseases. Cranberries have specifically been shown to help prevent and treat urinary tract infections, improve immune function, benefit digestive tract and help reduce the risk of heart disease. This is my favourite cranberry sauce recipe - it is loaded with fresh c...ranberries is free from refined sugar, is really easy to make and tastes delicious. I made this yesterday and its in the freezer ready to take out on Christmas Eve.

Christmas is about enjoying quality time with the family and food plays a big part of this time of year. However enjoying delicious treats doesn't need to mean unhealthy food. These orange and cranberry muffins are grain, gluten and refined sugar free. They are full of protein and so can help fill you up without the usual sugar highs and carb cravings you can often get from muffins. They are adapted from Danielle Walkers 'Against All Grain' recipe book. They are so simple to make and are absolutely delicious. I still have lots of fresh cranberries left so will share my sugar free cranberry sauce recipe over the next week. Deepening my knowledge on medicinal mushrooms this evening with @hifasdaterra . Tonight specifically I’m learning about how they have the potential to support the body when it’s under stress. The more I learn and read the research on mycotherapy, the more I’m using medicinal mushrooms with my clients in clinic. Did you know that certain strains of mushrooms have been shown to have many therapeutic properties of which just a few include anti inflammatory, anti viral, anti microbial and anti diabetic. They also can be a good source of protein, contain various vitamins and minerals and are a source of fibre. #medicinalmushrooms #mycotherapy #immunesupport #stresssupport #adrenalsupport #nutritionaltherapy #fightthebugs

Many of you ask me for ideas to make fish more interesting whilst keeping it healthy for the family. Tonight I’ve prepared cod with cherry tomatoes a little fresh rosemary drizzled with some olive oil and seasoned with salt and pepper and it’s now baking in the oven on 180 for 20mins. It’s simple, quick and easy on a busy family night. I’m serving this with baked sweet potatoes, green beans and broccoli meaning they’re getting 4 veg alone in this meal. A few other ways to make the cod interesting is to top them with some basil pesto or wrap them in Parma ham before baking #familymeals #balancedmeals #keepitsimple #nutritionist #nutritionaltherapist #fishmeals #homelife

Another study was published yesterday on the nations health which made headline news. It was commissioned by Public Health England on 8,000 adults and 2,000 children so it was a decent sized piece of research and therefore worthwhile paying attention to. The good news is that it shows that alcohol consumption has decreased sightly. Unfortunately though, the amount of fruit and vegetables being consumed is still very very low: Only 29% of adults and 18% of children consume 5 ...or more portions of veg and fruit a day. The government recommends people to consume 5 a day. However, the research this is based on is very out of date and more recent research suggests 5-7 portions of veg and 2-3 portions of fruit a day has the potential to protect us from a huge number of illnesses and long term conditions, optimise our health and wellbeing and assist in reducing symptoms associated with a range of conditions. Many people feel put off when they see these numbers however it can be easier than you think and sometimes some guidance and inspiring and easy ideas can help. I will be announcing the dates of my forthcoming courses starting in January which will cover this topic and guide you through how you can achieve this.
In the meantime please find the link to the study below:

Planning for the week ahead. It’s one of the things I advise people on so often - the more you plan/prep ahead, the more likely you are to eat better during the week ahead. Tonight whilst I’m making dinner I have made a nut free granola for quick easy breakfasts this week. I simply melted 2 tablespoons of coconut oil with 2 tablespoons of honey then mixed it with 100g of oats then placed it on a baking tray lined with baking paper and baked on 180 for 10mins. Once it’s cooled then it can go in a sealed jar and used throughout the week for topping yoghurt mixed with whatever nuts each person fancies and some fruit. It’s a great alternative to porridge and as it’s pre made it’s ready to go. Have a good week. #roastedoats #interestingbreakfast #healthybreakfastideas #nutritionist #foodsforkids #familyfoods #keepingitsimple #planningahead

Interesting news today whereby the NHS are trialling low calorie drink diets to help reverse Type2 diabetes.
I have mixed views on this:
On the one hand we know that restricted calories and elements of fasting have been shown to manage and reverse this condition.
... However, having drinks rather than meals does not incorporate the key nutrients that have been shown to fight the underlying root cause. It does not teach people how to eat and live a long term healthy life by eating balanced meals, in the right proportions or address frequency of eating. We also know that health is not a one size fits all. Finally, there are lots and lots of studies that show focusing on just lowering calories may assist weight loss in the short term but in the long term the weight returns.
My approach working with people with Type 2 diabetes is to not only to restrict calories but teach people how to achieve this through delicious and fulfilling balanced meals that are full of essential nutrients and build habits that will stay for life.

I’m cooking with spices for lunch today. This turmeric, paprika and cumin is being sprinkled over cauliflower florets with a little olive oil before being baked and added to a salad. Did you know that many spices possess a range of potential health benefits? Therefore cooking with them is not just a way to make your food taste delicious. Here are just a few of the health benefits these three spices can help support: -Turmeric has been shown to possess anti inflammatory properties and assist in conditions ranging from arthritis to depression -Cumin has been shown to assist digestion and support the immune system -Paprika is rich in antioxidants and may assist in autoimmune conditions
