On World Parkinson’s Day, it’s important to remember that living with Parkinson’s does not need to define your everyday life.
Despite the need for assistance from our carers with basic day-to-day activities, our lovely customer Molly still takes great satisfaction from the reassurance of constant companionship and being able to enjoy an afternoon cup of tea in the local garden centre.

Hollywood actress, Selma Blair, has recently revealed that she has Multiple Sclerosis. Read more about her story here:

Meet Jemma, a Maths teacher living with Spinal Muscular Atrophy. Jemma has two live-in carers assisting her both at school and in her own home, so that she can enjoy that precious quality time with her mum.

Did you know that the influence of music can reach parts of the brain that other forms of communication can’t?
Whether you’re playing your loved one a familiar tune on the piano, singing one of their favourite songs or even letting them teach you a note or two; music can help to alleviate the symptoms of dementia and bring comfort to those living with the condition.

Today is World Health Day, where we acknowledge 71 years of the World Health Organisation’s campaign to achieve Universal Health Coverage.
In 2019, there are still millions of people without access to basic healthcare. Like us, WHO’s number one ambition is to ensure that the right care is available to those who need it, when they need it, without looking too far from home.

Easter is just round the corner and for the second year running we are asking people to buy an extra Easter Egg and drop it off at the Guildford & Godalming branch of Helping Hands. We will be donating all our eggs to The Meath Epilepsy Charity here in Godalming.
The aim of The Meath Epilepsy Charity is to enhance the lives of people who have complex epilepsy and related disabilities by ensuring they receive the support, expert care and encouragement required to build confidence, acquire new skills and maximise independence in their daily lives, so this is why we have chosen this charity for our egg donation.

Since 1989, we’ve helped thousands of mums who need extra support to stay in the comfort of their own home. Julia Clark, a carer from our Shrewsbury Branch, has helped Margaret Doran get back on her feet after a nasty fall last December.
With the support of Helping Hands, she is now feeling much better and is looking forward to spending Mother’s Day with her daughter Jayne.
Margaret said: “All the carers are great and Julia is like one of the family.”
