A truly excellent way to kick off the new season for the Guild’s workshop programme. For many years Pauline Twyman has stressed she thinks she is too old to do more workshops but luckily she was persuaded to come out of retirement and the 14th Sept. workshop was a sure sign that she has not lost any of her artistic magic! A lovely painting day with artist Jane Strother was spent in the grounds and gardens of Nuffield Place. On such a sunny day Jane encouraged us first to produce a tonal sketch. She then demonstrated the use of a limited palette and the use of complementary colours, with one colour dry-brushed or scumbled over another to give a more vibrant effect. Very interesting day painting portraits with Mark Fennell . Robin our model led such an exciting life and was very entertaining as well as being an excellently still model all day. 15 members there and some good work ensued. [ 57 more words ]

How lucky we were that the workshop that had to be cancelled the previous week because of snow could be rescheduled to the following Friday.It was almost a miracle that Mick our tutor was free and that the Hall was also free.We had a great day of drawing . we were carefully tutored through a series of preparatory exercises before embarking on a major work in the afternoon. This rather abstract title proved very popular. Many members turned up to paint from the heart. Diana our tutor gave a short talk encouraging us to paint the feelings and emotions not just reality that were evoked by looking at the vases of flowers that were brought into the hall. The programme just said mixed media so it was difficult to know what to expect.We had a most wonderful creative day with Carole Edwards. From the start when we covered pieces of paper with a variety of colours and then on to some monoprints the day was full of variety.Carole gave us a demo of monoprinting before we were let loose on our own, we made prints on the pieces of paper we had coloured earlier. We all had a most excellent day with out wonderful enthusiastic tutor Liz Chaderton. She showed us all the intricate delicacy of watercolour. We started by painting a feather and then progressed to pictures of owls.The day was full of demonstrations and lots of practical help with our various problems and varied questions.It was a thoroughly enjoyable day. A great exhibition with so, so many varied crafts on display. Visitors have been amazed as they tell us how much talent is on show. On 1st December who better to run a festive workshop than the ever popular Karen Carter. The brief was ‘Tree decorations/ gift tags..... anything dangly and festive !’ Using fabric and card printed from our lino and craft foam designs (either rolled or sponged on) we embraced the start of the festive season.” [ 470 more words ]
