Have just seen this weeks Henley Standard, it was nice to see 2 photos in it, the first of cdt Day with the Royal British Legion and the second of squadron and Sgt Ellis at Remembrance Parade. Well done everyone

Congratulations to our very own Flight Sergeant Ian King who was presented with a certificate for his 45 years of service at the annual Bisley and Pirbright shooting competitions. This was well deserved recognition for a gentleman that has spent the majority of his adult life in uniformed service. Well done FS King!!

Please all remember that the squadron is closed this week due to the henley regatta.

Another great weekend just gone by. Two cadets trained on the No8 Rifle, our basic shooting rifle, with other cadets in the wing. They were also able to shoot on the Sunday giving them an opportunity to use the rifle for the first time. We hope to be sending more cadets on this and future months TASER events.

A good weekend for our cadets this weekend. Sent 3 cadets flying at 6 Air Experience Flight Squadron at RAF Benson in the Tutor where they all got a go at flying the aircraft under the supervision of one of the instructors. Also a great big thank you to WO Miller for coming down and teaching the cadets some self defence last night. The cadets got some good tips in how to fall and even learned a couple of easy throws and had great fun. We hope to see you again in the near future.

A very successful weekends training. 9 more cadets up to first class. Learning subjects such as History of Flight, map reading and Basic Radio Communications. They are now able to take part in almost every event off outside of the squadron including Summer Camps, Flying, Shooting and Adventure Training Courses. Congratulations to all those who passed. I Hope that you take advantage of the great opportunities that are available through the Air Cadets. Also a big thank you to the Staff and the Cadet NCOs who came down to help deliver the course.

Just in case some people may not have heard (I know how fast news travels :D), I have retired from my position as OC Henley and the Corps with effect from the end April. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time as OC and am pleased that the squadron is beginning to show the lift in numbers and the success that it deserves.
My thanks to the many staff and cadets that have helped me over the past 15 months. I will enjoy watching as the squadron goes from strength to strength albeit ...from afar!
The cadets at Henley have been a delight to serve - their devotion to their squadron (and it is THEIRS) is untouchable. Have a great time and enjoy every minute ladies and gents.

Marshalling the Devizes to Westminster canoe race at Marsh Lock was a great success. Helped out on Saturday by 9 cadets from 1861 (Wantage) Squadron. A great bunch. Thanks to the staff who managed the 26+ hours straight, through a busy day and a very cold night.

This weekend our excellent cadets and a few from neighbouring squadrons will be helping to marshall the Devizes to Westminster Canoe race at Marsh Lock in Henley. Remember they are foregoing CHOCOLATE for over 24 hours to serve the community. In my humble opinion - the ultimate sacrifice!! :D

Had an excellent evening climbing on Thursday with 5 cadets at Reading Climbing Centre. We had lots of fun on the climbing and bouldering walls. Looking forward to doing more in the summer with some of the newer lot as well and we will be looking into trying to get some cadets through NICAS (National Indoor Climbing Award Scheme) as well.

Excellent effort on Sunday from our two Sergeants and one Maidenhead cadet. Both Sergeants achieved Marksmanship awards (Region and Wing).
Many thanks to WO Lambert (381), FS King (447) and CI Thompson (447) for spending their Sunday coaching and assisting on range and helping to raise our three cadets to a very acceptable standard of shooting.

A really good evening at 447 with our new cadets arriving. Welcome to the 8 young ladies and 1 young man. Induction out of the way I think they all enjoyed attempting the unique 447 mini assault course and drill instruction before Final. A surprisingly good standard of static drill after only 15 minutes instruction by Sgt HP and Flt Lt Sheppard.

Henley Air Cadets looks forward to greeting their new recruits on Monday. A big WELCOME to them all from this fantastic youth organisation.

Year 9 assembly at Piggott's went as well as the first. Absolutely charming and enthusiastic staff - one of whom was a cadet in Wales and very supportive. Roll on Monday, as long as a slight hiccup in my leaflet writing doesn't throw people off! It should read MARCH 16th not JULY 16th. And the timings remain at 7.30 pm till 9 pm. Perhaps I was thinking of summer............

Had a fantastic assembly at Piggotts School with Year 8 - what a terrific bunch of young people and lovely staff. Doing it all again tomorrow with Year 9. Can't wait!!
