Henry Moore provided illustrations and covers for many books during his long career. One of our absolute favourites is this limited edition of Auden Poems, featuring 23 Moore lithographs. #BookLoversDay. See all of the illustrations & find out more at http://bit.ly/AudenPoems

Do wild cats count for #InternationalCatDay? Henry Moore didn't often feature cats in his artwork, but he did make several sketches studies of this lynx, drawn from a small sculpture (possibly Persian, 4th century) that he owned.
If you're based in the UK, you can watch Mr Moore talking about this piece in a BBC film from 1974 (at 21 mins): http://www.bbc.co.uk/archive/henrymoore/8 811.shtml

Happy #YorkshireDay! We're marking the occasion with a special post from our Archive. Take a look at this concert programme from 1912, with cover by Albert Wainwright, celebrating Castleford Through the Ages. A certain Henry Spencer Moore starred in Episode IX of the town's history, playing a Hanoverian villager. http://bit.ly/2At7aZ3

Happy 120th Birthday to our founder Henry Moore, born #OnThisDay in 1898. Here he is, looking cheerful, in Italy 1969. Photo: Gerald Cramer.

Today The Guardian is highlighting Dr Jess Wade's mission to add the achievements of more female scientists to Wikipedia. We're pleased to see that Nobel Prize winning chemist, Dorothy Crowfoot Hodgkin is top of the list in this article.
In 1978 Moore made a series of 10 drawings of Hodgkin's hands in response to a request from Rex Richards on behalf of the Royal Society. Hodgkin carried out ground-breaking and intricate experiments in X-Ray crystallography despite suffering ...from severe arthritis. #WomeninSTEM #WomeninScience #WednesdayWisdom

Wonderful tribute to the artist and chance to get up close and personal with some fabulous sculptures - and sheep. A fabulous location - now with great cafe to take a break or shelter from the rain. Definitely recommend a visit - its very tranquil , even at busy times

User

What a wonderful place. Great to be able to see these monumental items of beauty up close as well as learning about his methods and processes. Particularly loved the maquette studio and seeing all his source material and sketches. We totally loved it. Well worth seeing.

User

We visited with our 2 year old granddaughter. I have been before but persauded my recently retired husband to visit. He is no art lover but found the house tour very interesting. Being a former engineer he was interested to see the technical aspects of the scupltures. The little one loved the sheep and she had fun walking in the sheep fields !! All the staff were lovely and the new cafe, shop and toilet facilities are great, much nicer than on my previous visit !!

User

We had a great family visit. The grounds are lovely, presenting a fine collection of highly accessible sculpture in a perfect context. The studio buildings offer a view of the techniques, inspiration, history and tapestries of Henry Moore. Yes, tapestries. And if you consider that the sculpture and its background is fantastic... The tapestries themselves are worth the visit alone. Cafe and gift shop are a cut above, and the gastro pub across the road will complete your day nicely. Top notch.

User

Very much off the beaten track so a wonderfully peaceful and quiet place. Some great sculpture of course, scattered through the grounds. It was interesting to see some workspaces. The tapestries he commissioned to hang in his barn are truly exquisite. The new visitor centre is very smart and we enjoyed our lunch in the on-site cafe. At present there is an interesting exhibition about Henry's development as an artist from childhood onwards. A really enjoyable day out!

User

Relaxing and informative day. The staff are warm, friendly and knowledgeable. A wonderful environment to enjoy and appreciate the connection between nature & art.

User

Our first visit of 2018, a few days after the season opened. We are lucky we live nearby. Sculptures which have been on their travels to exhibitions around the globe, have been returned to Henry's ow garden, whilst others are missing for this year, on simar travels. The King and Queen are back in their place watching and greeting the visitors as they emerge to view the vast expanse of gardens and nearby field where the pieces are displayed. An added bonus this year, for my husband and I, is that photos can now be taken inside the Tapestry and Sheep barn as well as all other indoor venues except the house. And as usual all guides and other staff are friendly and knowledgeable. First visit of many I hope.

User

Immersed in Moore's home and the confluence of modesty and rich aquisition of earthy and earthly delights, the transition from the domestic to the sheep fields is beguiling and the behemoth on the hill is both alien and indigenous.

User

I visited today with friends and had a great time. All the staff were really knowledgeable and helpful. Thank you for a lovely day.

User

Great place for a family day out. Lovely gardens, nice cafe. Oh yes, and some sculpture too!! Really good to see them outdoors in a natural setting.

User

First visit ever yesterday and I thought it was wonderful. I felt like a child in a sweet shop rushing from one sculpture to another and I like the fact that there are plenty of benches to sit and soak up the atmosphere.

User

Fantastic day at Henry Moore Studios & Gardens. We visited the Studios and got well informed about the house. The gardens is great in the sun. Not to forget "Out of the block" with marble and british stone. Worth a visit this year and the garden any year.

User

Fabulous place. We live quite close and had meant to come for ages. It was a perfect sunny day and the sculptures look fab. Very helpful staff who helped inform our visit and get the most out of the experience. We loved it!

User

Exceptionally well presented, and on the sort of sunny day we had, it makes for a lovely lazy stroll. Choose between the nearby pub and the cafe at the Studios & Gardens for lunch or refreshments.

User

Definitely worth a visit! We loved our day here and the staff were so helpful. Can’t recommend it enough!

User

Amazing sculptures in a quiet, beautiful setting. Loved the pond and certainly got some glorious photos. Very lucky with the early autumn sun. We’d highly recommend a visit.

User

A jewel of a place to visit!

User

A great visit to the house, studios and garden. All aspects are presented to such a high standard, the work of Henry Moore is fantastic.

User

If you have the weather it's a good day out. Great to see the sculptures in such an open setting and interesting to see Henry Moore's studios. Had lunch at the Hoops Inn next door too which is also recommended.
