Outstanding!
Outstanding!
Great triathlon in St Albans this morning. Really liked the course and had a great race. Thanks to the marshals!
Great swim guys. Thanks
Brilliant team, well organised. Each week they've been there, a team out on the water. You've got me faster this year guys, thanks for everything, we hope you'll be back next year for another season of openwater swimming :)
This was my first Tri at Merchant Taylors. I have to say that I am disappointed with the signage and zero marshalling on the bike course, I was so confused at the turnaround point and lost confidence for the rest of the bike leg thinking I had made a mistake. I also made a point of checking with an official beforehand who assured me I would know the turnaround point as there would be a water station there..... No water station! Also no marshals on the run leg. Although the signs were pretty clear there was a lot of corner cutting going on and I am doubtful that many completed the full course. I still had an enjoyable experience but it could have been awesome instead!
I have mixed views about the event at St Albans on 13 September. This is my first duathlon event (I have however done lots of running events) so have nothing to compare it to but I wanted to highlight a couple of concerns. Firstly, there were no marshals (apart form on a few roundabouts) on the road bit of the bike route. Bearing in mind, a major part of that route was along a busy, main road, I was surprised at this. If somebody had come off, or had a problem, there was nobody to help them. There were no signs along the route warning drivers that there was an event on which I would have expected to see. The road was busy and traffic was flying past me at great speed which took away some of the enjoyment of the event.
Secondly, I thought the run/cycle through the park was a bit chaotic. Runners, cyclists and the general public were not a good mix. I was told to slow down coming back in to the park as it was congested. I heard of people being hassled by members of the public about the fact that bikes are not allowed in the park. I had to ride round dogs, children and adults who were in the park. I question whether a busy park is the best venue for a race!! Whilst I am not a serious runner or cyclist, I can imagine that for those aiming for a PB would not be impressed at having to slow down on part of the route.
Thirdly, having to register the day before was a real pain. Luckily somebody could do that for me. I have not had to do this before with running events. Either the pack is posted to me before the event or there are enough "staff" at the venue on the day to enable participants to pick the packs up.
There were many good things about the event but I am afraid the above issues just took the edge off it for me.
Good for small local events, but not organised enough for bigger participation.
At the main base area all seemed well organised, but after that....
Bike was not well signed at all for any of the turning points, I know super sprint and sprint people were totally confused and did some extra distance. Coming back to dismount, no clear signs and people doing a U turn as they were told not to go to the finish line, the dismount line was passed the finished line to the right hand side, clearer signage needed
Run was signed okay, confusion when coming out of transition and to the lake, from there on it was okay.
For an event and fee paid, was disappointed that many people talked about the negatives of the event, which in the main has positives too.
