DOCKYARD AND WARSHIPS....note the absence of North Yard, the KEYHAM STEAM YARD, still in build possibly. HMS DRAKE block on the parade ground is visible.

Sincere apologies to those who turned up for the last Sunday tour of 2018 at Whitsand Bay Fort. My car simply has taken too much strain and stupidly I left my phone at the new museum in Plymouth. Do feel free to contact me again for a rescheduled tour.

User

A huge thank you to our guests from Brazil along with the Ashton family who took a private tour at Whitsand Bay Fort today. Have a safe journey back!!

FEBRUARY 1912, the VECTIS is aground at ANDURN POINT, between HEYBROOK BAY and BOVISAND. There she stayed and is still there today. On a low water spring tide the site is well worth a visit from the shore. Quite safe for kids under control, lots of boiler coke, boiler firebricks, glass and pottery to be found as well as iron chain and bigger bits of unknown. Note RAME HEAD in left distance.

User

Wishing all a Merry Christmas. Thank you all for your support in 2018!!

User

RAME HEAD. What was this now long gone building used for? Coast guard store? Power generator for ? Seen here in 1970.

User

THE FORMER M.O.D. TRAINING AREA, North of CROWNHILL ROAD. For the last few years housing has ben encroaching from the top left, and in the next few months the area will be hacked in half with a large flyover and a new road linking the A38 to Derriford, seen in 2011

FORT STADDON, and the Butts of its adjoining .303 smokeless powder rifle range, PLYMOUTH SOUND, MOUNT BATTEN, CATTEWATER and PLYM, taken in 2011 - UK

One of Plymouth’s best preserved blitz damaged locations thankfully never repaired and a stark reminder of the power of shrapnel.
My youngest two couldn’t believe how iron could be torn up and melted by flying fragments of bombs.

A lone German bomber below a reconnaissance plane as it photographs the Dockyard and City. The images caught by these planes were used to pic targets and assess the effect of previous raids on the City.
Another of the WW2 created images from the #shadowsofourpast collection

Fantastic blitz walk around Stoke/Ford and Keyham - thanks.

Every Plymothian or visitor to the city should see the reality of life in the city in WW2 before it disappears forever. A great group doing an important job preserving recent history.. in an imaginative and fascinating way. Book onto a blitz walk!

User

Do you love Hidden historic sites that are still there, access them from the safety of your computer rather than trekking through miles of lanes and fields, overgrowth and countless pages of research, not to mention getting the landowners permission. Just enjoy the professional site appraisals and Photos and enjoy looking at artefacts and videos of some of these forgotten gems.

User
