Writing partner and co-band leader of Gil Scott-Heron, keys and funky flute legend BRIAN JACKSON comes to Hideaway to share the music they made together - from ‘The Bottle’, ‘The Revolution Will Not Be Televised’, ‘Winter in America’, ‘We Almost Lost Detroit’ through to ‘Racetrack In France’ and ‘Delta Man’, this unique creative duo not only delivered a definitive soundtrack of an era but carried a social commentary quite unlike any other. Featuring Yolanda Charles (bass) and... Chris Morris (drums).
Half of the power duo Gil Scott-Heron & Brian Jackson, Brian wrote, arranged and produced over 10 albums over an eight-year period. Time and time again that music has found its way onto over 100 cuts like Common's “The People” (from "We Almost Lost Detroit") and Kendrick Lamar's “Poe Mans Dreams” (from "Peace Go With You, Brother").
Almost 40 years later, Brian is still building with artists like M1 (Dead Prez), vocalist Gregory Porter, São Paulo hiphop artist Rodrigo Brandão, young lion jazz violinist Scott Tixier (Kenny Barron, Stevie Wonder), and legendary bassist Charnett Moffett.
Brian looks to both the present and the past for inspiration in order to honour the ancient tradition of the griot - the African troubadour of truth.
“This music isn’t really mine," Brian asserts. "I learned it from those who came before me. It’s my job to pass on what I've learned. That’s the Tradition.”
In the tradition of the African griot, Brian tells the stories of how some of his Gil's best-loved pieces came to light.

Ivy Chanel returns to Hideaway, with her soulful feelgood style and uplifting songs.
“Chanel is utterly charming with an endearing love for her craft. As one would perhaps expect from a sought-after vocal coach, her vocal control and ease was tremendous. She has a voice of thick cream” The SoulHouse
Having performed for Presidents and other dignitaries around the world and worked with award winning artists and producers; Q-tip, Scratch Professor, Biz Markie, Omar Lye-fook MBE..., Mo Pleasure, The Temper Trap, Curtis Richardson, Freedom C+C Music Factory, DJ Kazu to name a few, Ivy Chanel is also a sought after vocal coach (described by Simon Cowell as “Fantastic”).
Ivy Chanel’s heritage is a huge part of who she is as an artist and she represents her Native American roots as strongly as her African American ones, explaining, “There’s so much more to our story, past and present. I wish to be a conduit for greater awareness and understanding using my God given talent”.

Fast rising star and acclaimed singer songwriter Sherika Sherard headlines as Hideaway launches Folkaway - a brand new monthly showcase of the finest in folk and acoustic roots music, showcasing emerging artists and some mighty fine headliners too.
TICKETS ARE £6 IN ADVANCE OR £8 ON THE DOOR
Sherika Sherard
... Prepare to be challenged and positively moved as you experience the infectious creativity of Sherika Sherard. With a voice like velvet to deliver her robust persona this Artist never fails to warm the hearts of listeners. Born and raised in South London, it was after listening to Marvin Gaye that Sherika came to realise she also wanted to discover her deepest emotions through performance and songwriting. When finding her sound, Sherika says “Paolo Nutini told me to pick up the guitar and Nina Simone told me to reflect the current times”.
Dave Sears & Mike Brown
Having played solo around London folk bars mostly from Camden to Greenwich, Dave Sears’ music has been described as independent folk akin to Bert Jansch or John Martyn, mixed with the modern influences of Nick Cave or Jack White. Also as half of folk rock duo ‘Yeti Love’ who've recently toured with Nick Oliveri (bassist of Queens of the Stoneage) on his ‘Death Acoustic’ Tour, Dave has been able to meet enough brilliant musicians on his travels to form ‘The Folk Thing’ a more bluesy, punchier take on his solo material.
Poppy Holmes
Poppy Holmes grew up in South London listening to Ella Fitzgerald, Laura Marling and Noel Coward. She started writing songs at 11 years old and hasn’t stopped since. Come and watch this up-and-coming singer-songwriter writer perform her witty, poetic lyrics with smooth tones.

We had a wonderful time with Avey Sunshine last night. The staff, venue, food, and clientele just up our street. I love the acts you bring to your venue and it is definitely top of the list for me when it comes to seeing an act close up in comfort i.e. with the option of sitting. Keep on keeping on...just one thing... another ladies loo!! The queue is always mad you have to pre plan your loo stops based on avoiding queueing, lol. All good looking forward to my next visit.

It is almost a two hour drive for my husband and I to get to The Hideaway but we do it as often as we can because it's our absolute favorite place to go for fantastic music, great food & drinks and an amazing atmosphere. The staff are friendly and so accommodating - I can honestly say there isn't anything that I would change: perfect in every way!

I woke up on Sunday morning and thought "today I want a nice Sunday roast whilst listening to some live music". So we headed to Hideaway and I got exactly what I wanted. I love this place, lovely atmosphere, lovely food, lovely staff and great music! We got seats right up the front even though we hadn't booked tickets in advance. I tried to online but the facility wasn't available (When I queried this by a member of staff she informed me they stop selling them online at 10am that morning). We we treated to 2 hrs of fabulous swing music by swing orchestra Down for the count, and it was a really great afternoon. I would recommend you visit this venue and prepare to be delighted!

I always love coming to The Hideaway. From the moment you walk into the club and get a warm welcome from Suzie, most recently attended to see the amazing Tony Momrelle. We were seated front centre of the stage. The staff at The Hideaway were friendly and great service when ordering our food and drinks. The food is always top notch and there is plenty to choose from the menu at a reasonable price.(Recommend the Jerk Chicken) and I just love the relaxed atmosphere. Thanks to Suzie and the staff at The Hideaway - Good Food, Great Music and Great service made it a special night.

I absolutely loved everything about this place. When I turned up, I liked the look and feel. The decor was vibrant and oozed soul and funk. We were able to choose our table and from then on, the service was friendly, attentive yet efficient. The staff gave the impression they loved working there. There's a good range on the menu for meat-eaters and vegetarians alike. The price was acceptable. Obviously, the main attraction is the music and we certainly were not disappointed. It was also very easy to get up and dance should you wish to. This is the perfect mix of food, music, dancing and fun. I'll be returning for sure!

Not sure what to expect when we arrived,it's literally tucked off Streatham high street .

I thought it was a night club ,combining live music with a DJ. But it's more than that it's an inmate venue combining live music with food and s assortment of drinks

The show was excellent ;chronological story of Jazz in New York in the forties.

I have heard strange fruit and it's message never hit home until yesterday a truely haunting song ...

The Performers were truely top notch.

I would definitely come back again .

Nice space, good shows, welcoming staff, down-to-earth attitude, not up themselves or full of irritating rules like so many places. One of my favourite venues in London

Love this intimate venue and the Bond experience was brilliant. I know that this is the place to go in South London for top quality live entertainment. If the waitress had been polite I would have rated it 5 stars but sadly she let the team down ~ Jaz
