I know many of our guests at Twitchen Farm and Highfield House will have mostly fond memories of Perro.

This walk can done starting from Highfield House, add an extra couple of kms.

Visitors to Highfiled House are welcome to visit the coppice with Jaye or Keith.

After the Devon Hedges and Trees talk by Rob Walton in the village hall last November we have been motivated to have our old hazel hedge laid and clear out some of the willow in the old coppice. The Devon Hedge Group web site https://devonhedges.org is very useful. The hedge has been pinned with beech stays (no string) and should continue to provide a good biodiversity well into the future. In the coppice we found an oak, a yew and a mountain ash that we didn't know was there.... Where we removed large overgrown leylandi last year has been allowed to naturally do what it wants, the result is a holly and oak sapling taking hold. Please be aware that if you are in the Parracombe conservation area then 'Anyone proposing to cut down or carry out work on a tree in a Conservation Area within Exmoor National Park is required to give Exmoor National Park Authority six weeks prior notice' More information on www.exmoor-nationalpark.gov.uk Maintenance of hedges is OK. Thanks to Breno J Muir for doing the heavy work on such a steep slope.

Keith, Perro and I joined Steve and friends for this walk. A sheltered route on an otherwise very windy December day, fabulous 3 hour walk from County Gate to Porlock Weir. Finishing with beer, wine and good food in front of the roaring log fire at The Bottom Ship.
