About Highfield Park Trust

Highfield Park is situated in St Albans in Hertfordshire. The Park is financed and managed by a charity called the Highfield Park Trust, which was formed in 1996 to create and then manage a new rural park for St. Albans. We are managed by a Board of Trustees and receive no direct financial support from the local authority. The Park was created from the grounds of the two former mental health hospitals that once stood on the site. Hill End and Cell Barnes Hospitals left a significant historical legacy on the area although some features in the Park predate the hospitals. The Park is now 82 acres in size and has orchards, ponds, meadows, woodlands and gardens to enjoy. There is also amenity land, which is used for football and other sports. We have objectives relating to the preservation of the historical features found within the park, to improve the natural landscape and provide recreational activities. To this end we host many community events throughout the year. All the relevant details can be found on our website.
